First Lady Michelle Obama reminded attendees of a naturalization ceremony Wednesday that the Founding Fathers werent born in America.
The ceremony for 50 new U.S. citizens was held at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
Its amazing that just a few feet from here where Im standing are the signatures of the 56 Founders who put their names on a Declaration that changed the course of history, she said during her speech, referring to the Declaration of Independence. And like the 50 of you, none of them were born American they became American.
Obama pointed out that the Founding Fathers pledged their lives and risked everything to create the United States of America after signing the Declaration of Independence.
Just like youre about to pledge allegiance to our flag, they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to this extraordinary idea that we now know as America the notion that we are all created equal, endowed with fundamental rights and freedoms that no one can ever take away from us, she said.
The First Lady explained that the Founding Fathers were Americans-by-choice just like the newly declared citizens.
As the newest 'Americans-by-choice,' you, too, will play an important part in shaping our history, she continued.

Perhaps I'm being too kind.
Depends on who you classify as a Founder.
Limiting it to the members of the Constitutional Convention, Hamilton, as you note, was born in the West Indies. One was born in Scotland, two in England and four in Ireland. That 8 of the 55.

To use a slightly less rigorous definition of Founder, I think Tom Paine should qualify. He was born in England.
Exactly! George Washington was born on his parents’ Pope’s Creek Estate near present-day Colonial Beach in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Does that sound foreign to you? I don’t think so. I guess the Wookie hasn’t been eating her vegies lately.
I think I have his desk. At least I have a desk from that period that was purchased from the estate of his descendent (another Smith -- John, I think). I bought it about 35 years ago. I love it, but it doesn't work for a computer. ;*)
She gives idiots a bad name.
odd that most of them were born in America and called American prior to the AR...

Nevis, LOL
We were on a cruise in March.
The comedian says “St Kitts and Nevis, that’s Caribbean for ghetto. Do not under any circumstances get more than one block from the port.”
Yes, but by implication Michelle was talking about physical place of birth, since she was drawing parallels between the people she was addressing and the founders.
And I believe both of his parents were born in the “Territory”. But I could be mis-remembering that.

Fellow Texans, flood out the faxes, emails and phones at the governors office and your representatives!
Ask what they intend to do about massive amount of illegal aliens flooding over our border, bringing crime, drugs, disease and unbelievable expense to the state to care for them.
This is insane!
HOUSTON, TexasGovernor Rick Perry (R-TX) appeared on Fox News Fox and Friends show and said Texas lacks the resources and manpower to secure the 1,200 mile border...
BS!
Other Texas elected officials, speaking on condition of anonymity have told Breitbart Texas that Texas does, in fact, have the resources to conduct not only a surge operation, but a prolonged border control operation that would secure the Texas border with Mexico.

yes. but she has to defend her husband being in this country....
Descriptive of the entire administration. Inelegant indeed.
Doesnt this woman have a staff of 500 people? Couldnt one of them edit her speeches? Nice work Princeton and Harvard.
They CREATED America, you moron. They didn’t break any laws to get here, either.
Let’s see. Jamestown around 1608. Articles of Confederation in 1781. US Constitutional Convention in 1787.
Almost 180 years between the first settlements and the Constitutional Convention. I bet there were some folks of European descent born in the New World during those 180 years, probably including all those who attended the CC and most all those who fought in the Revolutionary War.
These leftist haters try to diminish our heritage and history at every opportunity. And Moochelle is an ignoramus for saying that, despite her pieces of paper from Princeton and Harvard. Doesn’t say much for Ivy League education.
Breitbart.com is as stupid as she is. REMINDED? It's a LIE! Can I get an editor, please?
