Fridays revelation that the IRS lost Lois Lerners emails in a computer crash came ten months after Congress first requested them and seven months after they were first subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee. But what IRS Commissioner John Koskinen testified about the emails at a hearing in March appears to be at odds with his agencys newer reported claims that the emails are irretrievable.
Under questioning by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) on the House Oversight Committee, Koskinen said IRS emails are get taken off and stored in servers. That was part of the reason, he said, it was so difficult to provide them in a timely fashion.
As of March, the IRS had reportedly given Congress more than 400,000 pages of documents: just not the ones at issue.
Other testimony from the hearing:
Koskinen said, at the time, it would be 2015 before the Committee got the documents it subpoenaed. That means he predicted it would take the tax agency a year and a half from the time the material was first requested to provide it.
Koskinen said the IRS uses Microsoft Outlook but that a simple search through a users sent and in boxes would not turn up the emails because theyre stored somewhere.
Koskinen indicated that seven months after the request, the agency had not yet begun serious work to turn over Lois Lerners emails. But he said, We can find, and we are in fact searching, we can find Lois Lerners emails. He made no mention of a computer or system crash.

Surely, even most illiterate computer users know that e-mails are stored on more than one server. And even if that were not true/ isn’t there a regulation that hard copies of government agencies must be saved and stored somewhere on paper?
A rerun of Hillary’s missing FBI files democrats need a new hand book.
Remember, there is only a handful of people left that demand the truth. . no matter HOW LONG IT TAKES (most of them Freepers, btw). Sadly, most people in this country, at some point, lose interest and move on. The Dems know this and incorporate it in EVERYTHING they do. . "what difference, as this point, does it make?" . . see?. . . .that is why the country is doomed. Truth is no longer important to the majority of Americans.

If you create or receive email messages during the course of your daily work, you are responsible for ensuring that you manage them properly. The Treasury Departments current email policy requires emails and attachments that meet the definition of a federal record be added to the organizations files by printing them (including the essential transmission data) and filing them with related paper records. If transmission and receipt data are not printed by the email system, annotate the paper copy. More information on IRS records management requirements is available at http://erc.web.irs.gov/Displayanswers/Question.asp?FolderID=4&CategoryID=5 or see the Records Management Handbook, IRM 1.15.1 http://publish.no.irs.gov/IRM/P01/PDF/31421A03.PDF).
Here’s boilerplate that I have composed. I am sick and tired of the defeated ones that post here.
How about this? How about we stop the nothings gonna happen meme that dominates this board? I am sure it makes some feel smart and smug. But, that steady stream of demoralizing comments, thread after thread, day after day, is actually aiding and abetting.
Someone correct me and defend the strategy of constantly declaring defeat in the midst of the battle.
I too feel defeated, but just keep saying:
TRY AGAIN! FIND A WAY! NEXT TIME! NEVER GIVE UP!
If we had real leaders in the House of Rep. they would have arrested Lois Lerner on the spot after her awful testimony and locked her up - which they have the power to do - and not let her out until they got/get the information they are requesting. Repubs huddle in fear of Obama and the dems. Sickening.
you’re right of course.
I hope the Rs [and the electorate in Nov.] do something to give us confidence. Lock up Lerner, lock up this IRS guy, take away Lerner’s pension, ANYTHING that shows us they’re interested in getting the truth...
that would help
This needs to be pursued aggressively.
This will be a test of Mr Issa and his colleagues in Congress - are they all p*ss and wind or can they actually achieve something.
Am I the only one who thinks it is ridiculous that they are saying the emails were on her computer?
Every company in the county MUST retain emails. This isn’t done on the individual computers but at the mail server. WTH is going on here?

How about:
Nothing gonna happen unless/until we MAKE IT HAPPEN.
I’m with you!
So much negativity is getting me down.
altho I sometimes feel it’s hopeless, I try not to put project it.
I still despise the RINOS and feel the need to point them out.
Is this wrong?
No. Another angle to go at this is to find out who failed to assure that the proper backups were being done. Work it from the bottom up. Used to be you could motivate a geek with chocolate chip cookies.
We will either find the backups or find clues about who destroyed them.
Imo, there is a difference in pointing out shortcomings of the so-called leaders and giving up the fight. It’s the latter that turns my stomach.
