The United States has evacuated most of its personnel from the Embassy in Baghdad and dramatically stepped up security for those who remain as thousands of Islamic fighters bear down on Iraq's capital city.
Some 5,500 people work in the massive Embassy complex in the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad. Many will be airlifted to Amman, Jordan, and others will be sent to consulates in Basra, in the south, and Erbil, in the Kurdish north.
Other workers will remain in Baghdad.
Some 12,000 fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) are marching on Baghdad after quickly capturing Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, last week.
The fighters, who are predominately Sunni Muslims - a large minority in Iraq, then turned south and began baring down on Baghdad, capturing towns along the way.

This guy is playing for the other side - its just as simple as that”
Yes and he is unleashing forces he has no hope of controlling...they’ll pull his silly ass down very quickly too.
OBAMA: RESIGN OR BE IMPEACHED!
They have the finest arms and money money can buy - new production USA.
Obama’s words must be parsed carefully. He said he would not send combat troops into Iraq to help the Iraq government battle militants massing near Baghdad. While he has done his best to purge the US Military of leaders unwilling to do his will, the remnants have probably made it clear there will not be a repeat of Benghazi. I would expect troops will be sent in to protect the Embassy - probably a lot of troops. Obama has wasted a lot of time after totally wasting the opportunity to strengthen the existing government, and unfortunately we will probably see a lot of US lives lost trying to defend the Embassy and those there when our air assets could have effectively slowed ISIS to the point the Iraq government could have held together. Probably too late now.
Like to those that surrendered.
Oshameful better not let another embassy get kacked.
Good analysis. Seems about right. For all we know though Obama might not even be calling the shots at this point. If you were in the military right now, would you give a crap about Obama’s golf score in Palm Springs today ? What if you could save a few hundred lives for a court martial. Obama and his administration have no military clue and half the time they side with the Islamic terrorists.
It is more like Saigon in 1975.
I think leg and arm shackled and arrested is much better.

John has a long mustache.....repeat.....John has a long mustache.
Fox had a special report on Bush 41 Bush Family Album.
Bush should stop playing nice and speak out against Obama.
May be changing before our eyes; earlier I counldn't find any reason for stock futures being negative, but I just found these:
- Yen Climbs to 4-Month High Versus Euro on Iraq; Pound Advances Bloomberg - 9 hours ago The yen advanced, reaching the strongest level in four months against the euro, as violence in Iraq boosted speculation oil supplies will be disrupted and bolstered the appeal of haven assets.
- Shares struggle, oil firms on Iraq anxiety
It's like they'd prefer to be political but business is business.
There is no media blackout. All of the reports about bagdad airport are a hoax.
The damned Iraqis had a million-strong military. But they ran like schoolgirls the second they were challenged. Saddam's Republican Guard would've stomped this shit out in a couple days.
Actually, Jesus is not involved in the affair
The situation is among the factions of Islam
That would be a party for the Hog Drivers, but we’re going to retire them.
Why Saigon instead of Iran? We did have military assets there, too, and we ran.
