The platoon was, an American military official would assert years later, raggedy.
On their tiny, remote base, in a restive sector of eastern Afghanistan at an increasingly violent time of the war, they were known to wear bandannas and cutoff T-shirts. Their crude observation post was inadequately secured, a military review later found. Their first platoon leader, and then their first platoon sergeant, were replaced relatively early in the deployment because of problems.
But the unit Second Platoon, Blackfoot Company in the First Battalion, 501st Regiment might well have remained indistinguishable from scores of other Army platoons in Afghanistan had it not been for one salient fact: This was the team from which Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl disappeared on June 30, 2009.
In the years since Sergeant Bergdahls capture by the Taliban, and even more since his release last week in a contentious prisoner exchange for five Taliban fighters, much has been written suggesting that he was a misfit soldier in something of a misfit platoon that stumbled through its first months in Afghanistan and might have made it too easy for him to walk away, as his fellow soldiers say he did.
Indeed, an internal Army investigation into the episode concluded that the platoon suffered from lapses in discipline and security in the period before Sergeant Bergdahl a private first class at the time who was promoted while in captivity disappeared into Paktika Province, two officials briefed on the report said.
But their problems in many ways reflected those of the Pentagons strategy writ large across Afghanistan at that moment of the war. The platoon was sent to a remote location with too few troops to seriously confront an increasingly aggressive insurgency, which controlled many villages in the region....

Boy, Now I am starting to think, maybe Bowe Bergdahl may end up with a Silver Star (at the minimum). Next I am sure we are going to find out he really was on a secret mission.
Son, I say Son< That is SARCASM.
There’s a reason they’re keeping the classified report from August of 2009 secret. NYT had an article yesterday(?) based on the memories of people who had seen the classified report, and the memories conflicted with each other. IOW, they may well be introducing the narrative they eventually want to settle on. And if what Sheriff Joe says is correct, the regime has figured out how to alter the internal properties of electronic documents so that they appear to be genuinely old (like from 2009) even though they’ve just been newly-fabricated.
As you mentioned, the media (and the regime) have no qualms about making crap up - rewriting history. If Arpaio is correct they now have the ability to fabricate records that look for all the world as if they are genuinely from years earlier.
IOW, they can alter history. The report can say whatever they want it to say and they can say those whose memories differed obviously just didn’t remember it correctly.
Seems to me that the combination of the NYT’s anonymous sources claiming the report fit the regime’s desired narrative, together with the hiding of the actual report until they’ve had a chance to make it say what they want, is preparation for just that scenario.
They can fabricate records showing that these men who have spoken up are actually psychopaths, as the HUD guy suggested. This suggestion that the unit had problems was first (to my knowledge) floated by Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, who shouldn’t have been able to know anything in any report anyway but was acting like she claimed to know about all these problems in the unit. I think she may have simply been introducing the narrative that the regime settled on...
If the regime truly has the ability that Sheriff Joe says they have, nothing is impossible to them and nobody is safe from them rewriting history to frame whoever they want.
Too late Slimes, my Obama voting dad who served in the Air Force is disgusted with Bergdahl and turns the channel whenever his name is mentioned and he’s disgusted with the Obama corruption.
Obama is losing his voters over this.
Number one, hands down, no contest.
It's as if a foreign power erected a military base in America.
We knew this was coming. The MSM’s assists were to be expected.
More slime from the NYSlimes.
“and then one time, at band camp...”
No one would dare write a book about all the scandals and lies told by this administration and publish it. The book would be thousands of pages long and deplete the rest of the Amazon rainforest.
Blackfoot Company
now thats just RACESS!!!
So abandoning the unit and joining the tender Taliban would be an improvement?
Yeah, THAT’s the ticket! /s
In the high Hindu Kush mts and valleys - where it can get to 130-140 degrees in summer - now why would they dress like that!
Some guy down in texas....claims to have the paperwork to prove it

Every day, this administration and its defenders remind me to the pathological liar skits that Jon Lovitz did on SNL.

"I object to this reckless and insensitive use of the word 'raggedy.'"
You are correct. There is no way I can out bizarre them.
