The most dishonest thing that the left is doing now is trying to polarize the question of whether Bergdahl deserted or even defected by ignoring the soldiers who served with Bergdahl and claiming that “the right” is behind the attacks.
Smug articles by the likes of Michael Tomasky reduce the protests of the soldiers to “a vast right wing conspiracy.”
The accusations against Bergdahl have come from his fellow soldiers. They’re the ones who risked their lives and lost friends. Some conservative sites have picked up their stories from Facebook and Twitter, but they did that just ahead of CNN and ABC News.
It’s understandable why Michael Tomasky or Media Matters are reluctant to deal with those soldiers. Directly attacking men who have served is unpopular.
And the alternative is to go on defense, which Obama attack dogs like Tomasky and Media Matters just don’t do. Their usual play is to just skip past the facts and accuse the Koch Brothers, FOX News and Karl Rove signaling to their followers what to think.
Package that with claims about Republican strategists arranging interviews to imply that the whole thing was set up and you can just cry Swift Boat without having to go any deeper about the men making the accusations. The soldiers can be cynically written off as pawns in a political game.
The actual facts are messy and might not come out their way. It’s easy to denounce “conspiracy theories” about Bergdahl, to attack FOX News, which is just broadcasting the same stories as CNN when it comes to Bergdahl, than to deal with the fact that this is not a right-left issue.
At least one of the men who served with Bergdahl and has been vocal about it is a Democrat.
Untangling what happened to Bergdahl is a messy question that requires poking through multiple tiers of lies, but it didn’t become impossible until Obama bought some relief from the VA scandal through the Bergdahl deal.
That’s why Tomasky at the Daily Beast, despite publishing one soldier’s account, has to turn this into a right-left issue. It’s why Media Matters has to go on the warpath. It’s no longer about Bergdahl. They’re protecting the few points in the polls that Obama might pick up from the Bergdahl exchange.
Democrats and Republicans often don’t listen to soldiers unless they’re hearing something that they can use in a partisan battle. And even then they don’t always listen.
They’re listening now and Media Matters and its political allies would like them to stop.
Sadly, now that these soldiers names are out there, the slimey press and left-wing activists are probably digging into their histories and the IRS is rubbing its hands.
The difference is that people on the Right actually care about this. People on the Left don’t.
Posted on an earlier thread:
Okay heres one scenario the administration could come up with...Bergdahl was embedded with the unit as an undercover CIA agent, who as part of his mission infiltrated the Taliban by posing as a deserter and acquired a wealth of information, that could only be transmitted by him in person, so the trade was the only way to get him out and retrieve that info, he is a Hero.
Due to the sensitivity of his Top Secret mission and for the safety of him and his family, everyone is hereby banned from discussing this issue further, anyone doing so will prosecuted for treason.
In such a scenario the democrats have the cover they need, and would praise Bergdahl and obama, the Rinos will be more than happy to suck it up.
“Joe the Plumber,” Sarah Palin, Tea Party, Afghanistan veterans....
They’re already trying that, believe it or not.
They have even lost Mika on this one. When the Obama Administration loses Mika, they are in big trouble.
Yup, we all know veterans can’t be trusted since they are more likely to cause harm and need to be watched. Domestic terrorists?
“Vas you dere, Sharlie?”
Attributed to Jack Pearl, best known for playing Baron Munchhausen on radio in the 1930s and popularized the expression “Vas you dere, Sharlie?” to the point where it became a household phrase.
RE: They have even lost Mika on this one
I almost never bother to tune in to Scraborroagh ( I don’t even know how to spell his name correctly ). But I’m curious as to what Mika said...
Doesn’t Bergdahl qualify as a possible domestic terrorist under Napolitano’s definition?
What I noticed yesterday....both CNN and MSNBC were covering the story in complete detail. I don’t think retribution is in the game and someone in the White House is going to be shuffled out as the whipping boy for the Senate to jump all over for the deal.
I would also suggest this. If allowed, the Army will go through the process and charge Berdahl with a minimum of desertion. If you notice...they NEVER listed him as a POW, and that’s like a ten-thousand watt bulb burning awful bright. It’d take a four-star general to flip the switch easily on that...and they refused to do it. My bet is Bergdahl gets one-year of prison and a bad conduct discharge....he gets out and disappears a month later....into Pakistan.
The problem with Bergdahl’s whole theme....is that he’s a guy who desires peace and understanding. You won’t find that with the US Army...NOR with the Taliban. If you had to pick a lifestyle....he should have moved to San Francisco as a teenager and sold beads on the street.
..... Yup ... and the latest State Department narrative (Most likely by order of the King) is that these soldiers have no idea what they're talking about. The left is looking at this assault on Bergdahl as the "Swift-boating" of him.
Yup. I’ll wonder over to the DUmmies later and see if they’re on the case to discredit these men. Of course, that site is usually two days behind in news updates because left-wingers don’t read newspapers.
And Chrissie, I believe.
I’m surprised they haven’t declared him homosexual, at least to take some of the pressure off. Guess they figured that wouldn’t fly either though.
THAT is the ugly bunch of bearded camel flea infested savages that was released?!?
Something tells me that they aren’t going to dedicate the rest of their lives to peace, love, tolerance, and understanding.
And when they kill someone, the media will deliberately and intentionally suppress the fact that it was this bunch.
The White House hypes, "We leave no man behind." Really? You left them behind at the V.A., you left them behind at Benghazi. What's so special about this guy?
