Officials in Bergdahl's Hometown: "Stop the Hate"

In Hailey, Idaho, the hometown of freed U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, the joy at his release has turned for some into shock and fear — the fear of picking up the phone.

That's because some town officials have been deluged with angry calls from people who think that Bergdahl is an Army deserter or traitor who doesn't deserve a hero's welcome.

I don't even know what to think that 2,000 bikers for the POW/MIA organization are planning to attend this! The man deserted! Am I wrong in thinking they shouldn't show up to a celebration for a deserter?

They said the reintegration specialists that are working with their son would tell them when he’s ready to speak with them and move forward.

Yet his father told him at one press conference that he sent some “people” to help him and that Bowe should listen to them, they are “our people”. If you kid did nothing wrong why would you need to all but say you sent lawyers to counsel him?

I feel sorry for that town. They truly had been led to believe some things that have turned out not to be so. His unit members have all agreed that they were forced to sign non-disclosure agreements, and the file on Bergdahl was classified.

In other words, no one knew the truth. That would include his home town. I feel terribly sorry for them. Our small town in south Ohio had our of ours, a Marine, returned home after being killed in Afghan about 3 years ago now. If he had turned out like this, it would have broken this town’s heart.

Just watched no less than Ollie North hold up a bracelet he’s been wearing for 5 years in order to remember Bergdahl was being held by the enemy.

We were all misled.

Thanks for that info - As a parent, I can’t imagine not seeing my son as soon as possible. I wouldn’t care what anyone told me to do. This couple’s behavior seems really odd to me.
