Todd: White House was 'caught off guard'
MSNBC’S Chuck Todd observed Tuesday that the White House was “caught off guard” by the disastrous public roll out of their prisoner exchange for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.
Todd and Andrea Mitchell agreed that the White House had likely thought there would be “some euphoria around this, the only POW that was remaining in Afghanistan, that there would be a rally around the flag. That didn’t happen.”
“They were expecting criticisms of Gitmo, criticisms of the detainees that were chosen,” Todd said. “They did not expect this criticism of the attempt to go get Bergdahl in the way that it was done.”
Todd noted the White House’s change of tone over the last several days, using as an example a Pentagon spokesperson who defended Bergdahl’s rescue in the New York Times today by citing the Navy’s policy of rescuing sailors who go overboard, regardless of whether they fell out of the ship or jumped themselves. “That wasn’t necessarily what they were saying on Sunday.”

For all their fumbling and bumbling, the Obama administration should be noted for one thing: they have changed the way the political-media axis operates by condensing the process or even removing a few steps.
In past years, if an administration did something mostly right with a few wrongs thrown in the mix, they might trumpet the right, defend or downplay the wrong, and eventually come clean on it since they had, on balance, succeeded. If they did something mostly wrong, they might defend it until nobody believed them or until someone proved they were in error, then ‘fess up.
The Bammies have no time or tolerance for antiquated concepts like right and wrong. Instead, they hatch their plans with one single goal: to reflect credit on Barack Obama. This is often – and erroneously – called politics but politics at least tangentially involve elections, parties, downticket races, positioning for future elections, speakerships, chairmanships, etc. But, as Obama wistfully noted, he’s done running for office. He is a lame duck determined to fly or at least disguise his bad wing.
‘But he’s worried about the midterms!’ you say. Hogwash. Sure, a Democratic House and/or Senate might be a nostalgic return to the 2009 sausage factory days but Obama has demonstrated that he can’t work with anyone - even raving delusional partisan hacks like Pelosi and Reid – because he is unwilling, even unable, to share credit for anything. It’s a lonely place but one Obama has ably staked out due to his sociopathology. He and his wife literally have no friends – only political allies and toadies. What qualities that usually attract friends are visible in Barack and Michelle Obama? None, obviously. Like the Clintons, they would not walk across the street unless there was personal gain involved.
The House is a lost cause through 2016, even with the weak GOP opposition leadership, so what use is the Senate? To the extent he cares about the midterms it will only be because they represent another popularity poll for him. But if the midterms are a disaster what does he care? Will he change his approach? Will he need to? He’s already perfected his finger-pointing routine. He’s got two arms and can easily point at two houses of Congress not just one.
Obama’s urgency in manufacturing his own pathetic little political trophies has made him sloppy. It’s clear he regards at least half the nation not just as political opposition, but as genuine enemies more threatening than bloodthirsty Islamic savages and he can’t be bothered to disguise it any longer. He’s even isolated himself from traditional Democrat voting blocs who don’t constantly hail the chief.
His vanity projects (read: executive orders etc.) will only get more brazen and bizarre as he grows more desperate.
I had never heard of the guy. How could they expect people to be euphoric about something so few people had heard of?
Barry should have previewed the reaction on CNN.
A community organizer needs to understand the community. This community is starting to change. This community is starting to realize you really mean commune organizer.

This was pure “wag the dog” to get the VA scandal off the front pages. They ended up reinforcing the fact that they are both lawless and clueless, a terrible combination. Susan Rice looks like the biggest shill out there.
Keep an eye on everyone who tries to defend this. It will be telling.
And another question. Did this newly minted Haji want to be released? Was he shown the door because they wanted the Fab Five back into the fold?

I figured as much. They were sooooo sure of themselves that this was gonna be a huge PR coup and get those poll numbers climbing back up. They are idiots, led by imbeciles, voted in by morons. They truly believe their own propaganda like party apparatchiks. This blew up in their faces like a cigarette in a coal mine. They let 5 dangerous terrorists go for the return of a traitor. Putin and the Chinese must be laughing their ass off right about now........................
