For all of the talk about "hope" and "change" and both were powerful slogans for Obama in 2008 the core of Obama's appeal to many independents and even some Republicans was the idea that he would restore competence back to the White House after President George W. Bush's eight years, years defined by mistaken intelligence about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and a mishandling of the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. Obama openly embraced the idea that he was the anti-Bush on nothing much more than his commitment to putting the best people in the right places within his administration. (Remember the whole "Team of Rivals" thing?)
As conservative columnist Jeff Jacoby writes in the Boston Globe: "Running to succeed the deeply polarizing George W. Bush, Obama held himself out not just as a leader who would never 'pit red America against blue America,' but as a natural-born manager whose hallmark was smarts and competence."
Which is what makes the series of problems within his administration of late all the more politically problematic for Democrats trying to hold onto their Senate majority and narrow their House minority this November. The current scandal engulfing the VA is the latest example of competence questions surrounding this White House, but they include everything from the rollout of HealthCare.gov to the targeting of tea party groups by a Cincinnati IRS office. While none of these problems are easily tied directly to a decision Obama made (or didn't make), they have all eroded the public's faith that he knows what he's doing.

Tnx
Americans are starting to doubt President Obama is a good boss
The average American doesn’t catch on very quickly, do they?
George Bush was a decent and honorable patriot who did a fine job as president except he spent, or allowed the spending of too much! The city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana created the Katrina disaster. Virtually all politicians, including all DEMS, agreed there were WMDs and the Iraq War was the right thing to do.
The Washington Post cannot say anything bad about Obama without first saying something bad about Bush.
Only a complete a$$whole would take this long to get it.
WaPo has any crediblity left after coverng for this fool on the hill for so long? You ar joking, right?
Like his father, George W Bush is a decent, honorable man. He would have been a great president except for the fact that he was a Bush, and as a result was too enamored with the idea that a centralized government can do things well. Thank God we had him on 9/11, but his cozying up to Ted Kennedy was beyond the pale. His reluctance to take on and respond to the attacks from his political enemies (I blame the porcine Karl Rove's advice for that) led to his ultimate downfall.
The POTUS is “boss” of the military. Not of me. The POTUS is a puiblic servant.
The American sheeple made them god kings. That’s why we live in a totalitarian state.
Its still cool to vote for the Black guy, doubly cool that he is probably an un-American pro-Muzzie, triply cool that his policies are destroying the economy, but saving Gaia, and quadruply cool that he is for queer-marriage. Yes, the denizens of the welfare office and daytime tv would vote for him a third time.
Since when is the one occupying the office of the president OUR boss??? He serves at the will of the PEOPLE and derives his just powers from the consent of the governed. Here's a newsflash - Hussein 0bama NEVER HAS BEEN and NEVER WILL BE my "boss"!
The Bush Admin made a lot of mistakes, like giving a six month warning to Saddam Hussein we were coming, but what was written in the article is not accurate:
1. The yellow cake Bush and Cheney said was in Iraq was found and sold to a Canadian Company. The army had to sit on it for several years before they could move it, since it was so close to the border of Iran hidden in desert..part of Sadaam’s nuclear program. The rest of the WMDs went across the border to Syria in the truck caravan shown on Satellite on Fox news during 6 months before the invasion.:
2. Bush did not mishandle Katrina, because he called the Governer of LA twice to evacuate NOLA, before the Hurricane Hit...and the Mayor and Gov were idiots who did not follow protocol, even of their own drill held a few months prior.
Bush said or did some things that were embarrassing, but it isn’t because he did not try to evacuate.
Nagin was stupid and the Female Gov was asleep at the wheel. The President cannot usurp the Governor’s authority to call out the National Guard unless there is proof of incompetence and an emergency in progress, and yes later he could but damage was done.
George W. wasn't the world's best manager - but he looks like a pro compared to the current occupant. Pretty funny that the ComPost is just starting to fathom what the rest of us have known for 6 years.
