CNNs international correspondent Jim Clancy called the West Point response to President Obamas meandering foreign policy address pretty icy Wednesday.
Clancy said it was not really a great speech to give at the U.S. Military Academy, and the address has drawn bipartisan criticism.
It was a philosophical speech, he said. It was not a Commander-in-Chief speaking to his troops. And you heard the reception. I mean, it was pretty icy.
Obama said he believed strongly in American exceptionalism, but he continually used straw men in his address by implying that critics of his vision of foreign policy always advocated first and foremost for military action.
A panel on MSNBCs Morning Joe criticized the president for his announcement to fully withdraw American troops from Afghanistan by 2016, and even liberal Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson ripped Obama for giving a convoluted speech Wednesday.
There are individual problems that require individual solutions, Robinson said. And so that then sort of militates against some sort of sweeping Obama Doctrine that you can sum up in a bumper sticker. And I dont think we got one today, frankly. Hes against isolationism, but he is interventionist, but not unilateralist. Just because we have the biggest hammer doesnt mean every problem is a nail, just because we have the best military doesnt mean every problem requires intervention.
THIS is a Commencement Speech?
MacArthur's speech, which was magnificent, specified that OLD SOLDIERS never die, they just fade away.
BHO has no military service at all, and that seems to be part of his problem.
“BHO has no military service at all, and that seems to be part of his problem. “ That and he is a racist nimrod!
Jimmy Carter was a Naval officer, at least.
USNA '90
If you are close to correct, then I guess the graduating class is full of "old guard military" and hardly a new recruit to be found.
lol. Craven coward below pussy?
And I always thought Jimmuh the Peanut Boy, a.k.a. Every Dictator’s Favorite Toilet Brush, was a “Nooo-cue-leah” Engineer, personally trained by Admiral Rickover.
For your icy response, this zoomie salutes the Hudson high class of 2014 (...against all enemies, foreign and domestic,....).
As they should have.
yeah, but in ‘08 there were at least 2:1 Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin bumper stickers in the Pentagon parking lot.
It’s a bit of exaggeration to say “the military” as if all service members think/vote in lock step. Most officers tend to be Republican-oriented, while a large number of enlisted tend more to the Democrats. None of us has more than anecdotal evidence about who “the military” favors or dislikes.
I retired from the military, live two miles from the base, am in regular contact with young and old, enlisted and officer, all services. I think I have a pretty good idea. Do I know any who support democrats? Sure, but the number is small overall.
There's a reason for that......
Obummer showed his usual ignorance and disinterest when he said “To the class of 2014, I congratulate you on taking your place on the Long Gray Line.”
The Corps (pronounced CORE Dumbo!!) IS the long Gray Line, we do not stand ON it!!!!
I like that idea, but they all answer with something like, "I have no first hand knowledge but I assume he was in command and taking charge and completely informed because he's an awesome in-command leader."
Bunch of suckasses all.
I'll take your word for it. Wasn't the case at bases I visited, but then I didn't do a scientific study - just anecdotal observations.
