Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends.
John 15:13
On this day of remembrance, we thank You for our Savior, Jesus Christ, who laid down His life for us all. We thank You for the beautiful example of love that He gave us, and for all that was purchased for us on the Cross of Calvary. We thank You for the Resurrection, and the promise of life eternal in heaven with You for all those who believe. And we thank You for being the hope of every nation. Worthy are You, Lord, of all honor, glory, praise, and blessing.
Father, we honor those brave men and women who have gone before us, laying down their lives for our freedom. We are a nation blessed beyond measure. We thank You, Lord, for every hero who chose to show the greater love, and who paid the ultimate price. Father, we ask that You honor the family members and descendants of all those who have served so valiantly. Help us to truly bless our current veterans by helping them to receive the benefits and health care they deserve, Lord. Help us to show our respect, caring, and gratitude to them in many ways. Thank You, Father, for the freedom that has been preserved in our nation by these brave men and women with Your help.
Lord, may all families in this nation be blessed, and may Your people Israel be shielded from all harm and danger. We pray for many laborers to share the good news of the Gospel with them.
Father, may this holiday bring families and friends together in humble gratitude for the blessings You have heaped upon this nation. May Your Name be glorified in all of our celebrations. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Read: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11
In their book Dear Mrs. Kennedy, Jay Mulvaney and Paul De Angelis note that during the weeks following the assassination of US President John Kennedy, his widow, Jacqueline, received nearly one million letters from people in every part of the world. Some came from heads of state, celebrities, and close friends. Others were sent by ordinary people who addressed them to Madame Kennedy, Washington and Mrs. President, America. All wrote to express their grief and sympathy for her great loss.
When people suffer and we long to help, its good to recall Pauls word-picture of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3). Our heavenly Father is the ultimate source of every tender mercy, kind word, and helpful act that brings encouragement and healing. Bible scholar W. E. Vine says that paraklesisthe Greek word translated comfortmeans a calling to ones side. The words comfort and consolation appear repeatedly in todays Bible reading as a reminder that the Lord holds us close and invites us to cling to Him.
As the Lord wraps His loving arms around us, we are able to embrace others with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God (v.4).
