Its the kind of conservative media story only conservatives understand.
The latest numbers are out for Michael Savages radio show. Recall that Savage was a key player in the battle between Sean Hannity and Cumulus radio. A battle that had an exasperated Hannity finally firing Cumulus, as reported here in NewsBusters at the time. But not before Savage, whom Cumulus had in the wings to replace Hannity in the latters Cumulus slots, took shots at Hannity, gloating at taking Hannitys slot.
The Savage numbers tell a revealing tale of conservatism in the media. So lets start with the brand new numbers themselves, numbers supplied by Nielsen Audio. They are the numbers for April last month -, and cover 52 of Americas major radio markets. We will directly compare them here with Sean Hannitys last numbers before being replaced on Cumulus stations - which is to say Hannitys numbers for December, 2013. The percentages cited again, these are from Nielsen Audio (formerly known as Arbitron) are nothing if not startling.

“RUSH!, Mark Levine”
In Houston and some other markets we have Dave Barry. Very funny, and much different from all the others.
Anyone who donates money to Moonbeam Brown isn’t a conservative.
“WABC airs Savage from 3 (3:05PM) to 5”
Well that explains why I don’t hear him. I thought he went to 6. Thanks!
I’ve been listening to Dr. Laura on Sirius from 5 to 6. I don’t understand one thing though, she’s only on Sirius (she said that herself the other day so I’m pretty sure that’s accurate) but she always talks about “another hour” after 6 that I never hear.
She’s OK, kind of another ego-maniac I have to say. I’ll probably get sick of her after a while, but I haven’t heard her in a long time. Played her with hubby in the car one day - I thought he’d hate it, but he actually enjoyed her show.
To be exact, a 3 hour show contains 1:54 of host speaking time. 1:06 of ads, news, weather, traffic, ad nauseum.
Savage is good if you have trouble falling asleep...I heard better talking liberals than Savage.
Interesting to note that Hannity’s number droop last month coincide with his comments on the Bundy-BLM fiasco.
Sean, you are a limp-wristed opportunist.
Right, Conspiracy Thursday’s I believe.
Also, on holidays, he tends to have his “History Series”, discusses World War I for example. Those are good shows, I didn’t want to break from the radio to know what he would cover next.

He’s far from a carbon copy of how I believe but that’s not what I necessarily need to hear anyway.
Back to Hannity:
And Sean always has the Barbecue guy on, I forget his name or Tavares, Hannity has a lot of regular callers on.
If a big story breaks, the IRS scandal say, Hannity still can give a good analysis on the situation, often opening the show but that can often be the first 15 minutes. After that, it’s back to what has become normal.
I’m not going to steamroll Medved but he’s okay.
I used to listen to Dr. Laura from 12~3pm (PST) on KFI-AM·640 in Los Angeles. Then they replaced her with The Bill Carroll Show. A guy that talks about relationships, feelings, etc. Everything from a touchy feely perspective. I can’t stand him.
It doesn’t matter when he gets tired, it only matters when I get tired, and that pretty much happened after Obama’s re-election.
It became quite clear that that time that there is no point in listening to him, or Fox News, or even Rush for that matter, who has obviously been leashed.
I pretty much only listen to Levin at this point, and the reason I do so is because of his passion, and because he educates me.
Beyond that, there probably isn’t much point in listening to Levin either, because the downward spiral of this country is not going to be reversed, because the origin of it is its own citizens.
Saying you don’t like him is totally different than you trying to say his show has tanked, and that he will be leaving the business.
I don’t listen to him either, and never have been part of his audience, but he is second only to Rush, and is doing great.
The ratings say his show tanked.
Saying that I see retirement in his future is my opinion.
Maybe if you listened to him, you’d have some idea of what people who do and have listened to him are talking about.
As usual, I don’t see much point in discussing any of this with you.
I’ve stopped listening toIngraham-—she’s a lot of “me-me-me” and “I know best”.
I’m no fan of Savage but Hannity is now on my no go list as well. He screwed the pooch with me over Cliven Bundy. He has no guts and he’s so afraid of losing his million dollar salary he folds like a cheap suit. I will never watch him or listen to him again. Every presidentital cycle he shows up with his arm around the RINO.
Just eight years after the end of the "Fairness Doctrine" and now conservatives could speak out on the media without putting the owners' license at risk here came a valuable contribution by Michael Savage.
After four decades of wall-to-wall liberals screaming insults and conservatives slinking away looking back over their shoulders protesting "We're not [racists, Nazis, extremists . . .] we won't do that again. We'll be nice."
Savage showed that giving hell back at the liberals is the correct thing to do!
I too am fed up with his attacks on competitors. The KGO liberals attacked him first but I never heard one word against Savage from other on-air conservatives until his insults and name-calling -- he's stated that it is simply a method of competing.
A minor irritant has been getting his facts wrong over and over like Ruby Ridge happened on Clinton's watch and lately he confusing the Better Business Bureau with the Chamber of Commerce.
The posted article will have "explosive" effects. Monday's show.. if he's settled down enough to do the show should be beyond.. uh, beyond Savage.
Good post I agree with your analysis except I don’t like it when people yell at me on the radio (or anywhere really). I’m stressed enough driving (in traffic) I don’t need some jerk yelling at me during that time. And yes I include Levin in that category.
Hannity despite his conservative-lite approach is at least listenable. And he hasn’t had Rove on in a long time. In fact he’s been railing against that type of Republican for a while now. He’s not someone I make a point of listening to either but definitely better than Savage who has nothing but negativity and neurotic thoughts to offer.
I'm with you.
I actually miss 'personality radio' at drive times, when politics was a forbidden topic on certain shows. Alas, we've succumbed to the Marxist principle that everything is political. Even sports talk has become political.
I have listened very little to Hannity myself in the past 18 months or so. You may have meant to direct the question to another poster. But Carpet Kitten was calling when I last listened. He also has the “Let Not your heart be troubled” group. Like most hosts, he encourages people to follow him and express fan sentiments on social media.
