Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage says if Pope Francis wants income redistribution he should start with his own Church.
On his Friday show, Savage said he would bid $1 million for Michelangelo's famous painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.
"The reason I'm offering that money to the pope and the Vatican is so they can redistribute the wealth that begins in the Vatican itself," Savage said.
Savage said he was making a point that there is vast wealth within the Catholic Church, including priceless works of art and major shares in global companies. Gold ingots could be sold for redistribution purposes, Savage said.
Francis on Friday told a group of U.N. delegates, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, that they should urge world governments to back "the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the state, as well as indispensable cooperation between the private sector and civil society."
Savage's response: "It's Karl Marx in a papal outfit."
He noted that Francis is from Argentina, home to liberation theology along with much of Latin America, in the 1960s and '70s. And although Francis himself never practiced liberation theology, "he was certainly shaped by it," Savage said.

of course he is. The leader of an extremely wealthy organization, called for wealth distribution. Savage just merely told him to put up or shut up. Pope should lead by example.
Like all global organizations, they will claim that they have more liabilities than assets. They will claim poverty, what a joke.
So if they do, then you will give up all your money as well?
Really ready to stand by that word "all"??? I give quite a lot away during the year, monetarily I seek to hit 8%, but I also give of my time in ministries and other volunteer opportunities through my workplace. I know quite many others at my church who do way more than me, so I think you should eat those words.
If the Church sold the art it owns, it would eliminate poverty in the entire continent of Africa...for one year.

Amen to that as well as all of the other millionaires running around spouting “social justice,” for thee but not for me!
This is one of the things that really rubs me the wrong way about Catholics. Pope Francis is just a man (as was any other Pope).
Acts 10:25-26
25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself."
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Francis, quit being a coveter! Quit enabling other coveters!
Nope, it was his bright idea, not mine. Ill just point at the rich organization, claiming to be the heir to Jesus, not giving up their wealth while opining I should be forced to a gunpoint.
I agree - lead by example...
That is exactly right. The Vatican should lead by example and divest themselves of all their wealth but being the hypocrites they are it won’t happen.
As I remember in Morris West’s book “The Shoes of the Fisherman”, his Pope in that book did that very thing and gave away the Church’s wealth.
“Mr. Savage, youre in no position to criticize the Pope, or any man of God for that matter.”
EVERYONE is qualified to criticize EVERY lame-brained idea that is put into the public marketplace of stupid ideas.
El pepe was not speaking in a Catholic Caucus meeting. He was speaking for world consumption and putting forth a lousy idea.
Sell Vatican City to Donald Sterling he will have some extra bucks soon.
I always noticed in some of the smallest, most impoverished villages in Mexico, had the most gilded lavish Catholic churches!!
Talk about completely missing the point of Christ to the rich young ruler, to "sell everything he had and give to the poor." The rich young ruler proved that his "god" was not God but his wealth and comfort.
Maybe the same could be said for the Vatican.
+1
One of my favorite old movies: “In The Shoes of the Fisherman”. A unique Pope does just that - Pledges all the wealth of the Catholic Church to feed the Hungry.
So why are you sidetracking the debate. Maybe explain to us why your Pope is such a Commie?
So we should shut all of our hospitals down as well?
I’ve never quite understood this point.
Who do “the most gilded lavish Catholic churches” in “the smallest, most impoverished villages in Mexico” belong to?
It seems to me they are, at least in practical terms, the property of the villages and their people. It’s not like the priest or bishop is going to sell off the decor to live a more riotous life or pay off his own debts. That was a legitimate criticism back during the Renaissance, but not, AFAIK today.
And I’m neither Catholic nor a huge fan of the Church.
Of course, Savage was merely pointing absurdity by being absurd!
Most of us get it, hopefully you can too when you think about it.
