Personally, I think this could backfire, the more people actually see gays/homosexuals, the more they are put off by what they see vs. those who are just trying to "normalize" the lifestyle.
The Rams will still need a player in the games, the Pro-Sam Crowd will not be happy with him sitting on the bench, they will say “he’s not playing because he’s gay” whereas the same crowd was saying “he had not been drafted because he’s gay” before he was finally selected but if he doesn’t produce on the field and others would do better, I’m not so sure. His supporters won’t be happy with him riding the pine.

The Rams were good last year, could have made the playoffs with some fortune, they really can’t allow to have a dud in there playing if all other cylinders are firing.
The problem is you are looking at it from a pure football perspective.

I feel sorry for the Rams. They are stuck with a player who is not that good. The team will suffer because everyone else produces and he will not.
Others know if they don’t produce, they will be cut. Sam doesn’t have to do anything.

I'm spending more time watching Catholic high school sports where they still pray before each game. My son's Catholic college basketball games also featured a prayer before the games. His teams (HS and college) even held their right hand over their hearts during the national anthem.
My goodness I miss the America I grew up in.
