Rep. Trey Gowdy, the tea party Republican tapped to lead the new committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks, made a telling slip Wednesday morning in describing his mission.
Asked by MSNBCs Joe Scarborough about the possibility that his panels work would continue into the 2016 election campaign, Gowdy replied that if an administration is slow-walking document production, I cant end a trial simply because the defense wont cooperate.
A trial? And the Obama administration is the defense? So much for that serious investigation House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) promised; his new chairman intends to play prosecutor, proving the administrations guilt to the jury in this case, the public.
As a legal matter, Gowdy, a volcanic former prosecutor, is on shaky ground declaring his committee a court and his investigation a trial. But his honesty is refreshing, and it confirms what seemed implicit in Boehners selection of the second-term South Carolinian to head the panel over more experienced and less combative colleagues.
In a broader sense, Gowdys rapid ascent in the party fits closely with what House Republicans are doing in this midterm election year: abandoning any pretense of legislating in favor of unremitting hostilities with the White House.

The Washington Past is still around?
Dana Milbank, an aging Leftist sitting in a corner and babbling to himself. But fortunately for him, the sclerotic Washington Post sends him a check for his meaningless maunderings so he doesn’t have to live on the charity of betters.
You misspelled "Uberpartisan Democrat scumbag Dana Milbank"
I think it's awesome that the DNC and the White House have The Washington Post paying the salary of one of their lead media writers.
Wonder why George W. Bush didn't think of that?...
Movies that should be made:
Barack And The Real Journalist
Starring Dana Milbank as "Bianca".
"Yes, his mouth is always like that".
Problem is GOPJ....lot’s of people still trust the MSM.
Reminds me of this:
Worse than Ken Starr, yes. I heard one of the talking faces on FOX this afternoon say, “the Republicans are using the tragic deaths of four brave Americans to score political talking points.” Gowdy is in for a defining experience going against the regime. I hope he survives.
Oh. Dana Milbank. I should have read the byline rather than waste my time dredging semantic content out of the stinking muck of this guy’s verbiage.
They don't have to prove it to me. As far as I'm concerned, they can proceed directly to the sentencing phase.
RE: They don’t have to prove it to me. As far as I’m concerned, they can proceed directly to the sentencing phase.
I’ve always asked this question -— WHAT EXACTLY IS THE CHARGE?
And after that, WHAT SHOULD THE PUNISHMENT BE ASSUMING THE VERDICT IS GUILTY AS CHARGED?
As for punishment, I would be lenient and just give everyone in the WH life without parole.
Partisan Media Shills ping! Thanks SeekAndFind.
Fewer every year...
Nice try, Milbank, but as a former prosecutor, Gowdy naturally talks in the idiom of trials - what really bothers you left-wingers about him is that he takes your BS and flings it right back at you: to Pelosi complaining that there were more ‘pubs than ‘rats on the committee, he said “well, as President Obama said, elections have consequences - we control the House” - get used to somebody who isn’t going to apologize or run away whenever you attack him....
