Just received a call from one of his friends in Florida. Gonzo (Barry Lee) has passed away, He was a long term member of FR and was proud to be with us at the March for Justice in 1998. He was a veteran and a patriot and has always been a loyal friend and will be greatly missed.
Prayers for his family and loved ones.
God bless.
We have a responsibility to do our best to pass on the conservative views in an appealing manner. “Just the facts folks!”.
So sorry to hear. Prayers up.
Can’t believe I took this long to notice this - he was a sharp one - God Bless Gonzo!
So very sorry. RIP my friend.
My daughter got married in December 2000. For our father/daughter dance I wanted something really special. I wrote lyrics to the theme from TITANIC. Barry had a great voice, and offered to record the song for me. My daughter cried her eyes out as did many others. I held back tears pretty well but had to listen to it about a hundred times before the wedding to be able to handle it. She married a sailor and moved 1400 miles away.
I wrote a song for him -— KNOCKIN ON GONZO’S DOOR, to the tune of KNOCKIN ON HEAVEN’S DOOR. That was done to memorialize the time the Secret Service paid him a visit and thought he might be a potential threat to Bill Clinton.

We will be waiting for the CD to hit the airwaves. Before you record, let’s review the songs you want to do. “Knockin’ on Gonzo’s Door” will, of course, lead the way.

(Note: for those who have missed it, Gonzo plans to record a CD of parody songs.)
KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR (I hope this MIDI tracks okay...the original I can’t find)
Sometimes gonzo’s out of hand
as he’s trying to save our land
Just like other Freepers do
he knows what is and what’s not true
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
They know what their power’s for
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
The Secret service does its job
as they’re guarding The Traitor from a mob
They know that their job is crap
’cause he’s been treating them all just like a sap
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
They know what their power’s for
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
At about fourish they will come
gonzo called our great leader scum
Did they think that he made a threat
is that why his new pants are soaking wet
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
They know what their power’s for
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
(short musical interlude - pay attention)
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
They know what their power’s for
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Willy’s worried all the time
’cause he’s leading a life of crime
“He is guilty” gonzo cried
gonzo don’t be an Arkanside
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on gonzo’s door
Good grief I don’t come over to the site as I used to and now get two pings from you concerning deaths. Both gonzo and Jean S were long time freepers and will be sorely missed.
RIP Gonzo, you wanted the best and missed the worst.
I have just learned of Gonzo’s passing away.
Sorry to hear you have left, but I know you are in a better placer.
God speed my FRiend,
May the Lord embrace your close friends and relatives with comfort and love as they continue without you around.
God bless,
OV
God bless you Barry. Thank you for your service.
