A Mexican-themed drinking party promoted by employees of the student-run Coffee House at UC Davis has roiled the campus, threatening to ignite racial tensions even as the university ramps up admission for minorities and international students.
Clad in red T-shirts and chanting slogans, about 100 UC Davis students participated Friday in a sit-in at the Coffee House, urging a boycott of the cafeteria. The protest came after some Coffee House employees promoted an off-campus party at a local park Saturday that they dubbed Cinco de Drinko, a name university leaders said had strong connotations of racism.
The Facebook event page for Cinco de Drinko included a picture of four male students, wearing sombreros, trying to hop a chain-link fence while two female students in Border Patrol attire smile.
UC Davis officials and student leaders quickly condemned the planned party, which has since been canceled. During an impromptu meeting at the Coffee House, protesters told Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi they felt unsafe on campus.
What kind of message are you trying to send? asked Edwin Roque, a fourth-year transfer student.
Katehi vowed to use education to prevent similar controversies in the future, suggesting that instructional requirements could be changed to mandate a diversity course.

“Anytime someone does something a lib doesnt like, they claim its an act that somehow promotes violence, hatred, and intimidation. Worst of all, it may even lead to *cat-juggling*.”
It is any time it is something libs don’t manage/control or profit from.
Back in college in our dorm suite we threw a party centered around Jimmy Buffett’s “purple passion” - grape juice and everclear. By chance it ended up being the anniversary (first??) of that nut Jimmy Jones and all of those people that died drinking the purple kool aid.
We had fliers that we passed out to our friends, etc. That advertised it as the “Jimmy Jones 1st Annual Memorial Party - over 521 served”. (Or whatever the number of deaths was.
Pretty crass looking back, but funny and clever for some stupid college guys. We did get some comments that it was crass.
It celebrates Mexico winning one battle in a war the French won.
Far more Mexicans in the US celebrate it than in Mexico.
Maybe this is why humanity needs world wars. When life is too easy you get absurdly like this going on with liberals. Just look at the UK as proof. They only snap out of it when they are faced with annihilation. Then they finally get patriotic and religious. Just a theory of mine.
“What do you call four bullfighters in quicksand?”
“Cuatro sinko!”
How can a Mexican proudly proclaiming his homosexuality be insensitive?
Still waiting on Irish-American protests of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
WHAT DO YOU CALL TWENTY MEXICANS IN A SWIMMING POOL?
BEAN DIP!
(This joke was told to me by a Mexican) He laughed when he told it.
***I thought Cinco De Mayo suppose to be Mexican liberation***
Or as a Spanish American told me, the Titanic had tons of Mayonaise aboard that was destined for Mexico but it hit the iceberg and sank. When the ship went down, Mexico grieved and in May commemorated the day as CINCO DE MAYO.
Sad to see the PC Police offended by college kids being college kids. We weren’t sophisticated enough for Cinco de Whatever parties in the 70s but did have Wet Pants Wednesday at Brothers Tavern and a Bump-a-Thon at Mothrrs Worry.
We mixed the purple passion in the bathtub. Fun then. Gross today.
Kinda makes me miss the Frito Bandito.
I would have told Mr. Roque anytime he drinks it will make me feel unsafe. No telling what happens when someone with mental health problems (liberalism) and alcohol get mixed together. Dumba@@ Aggie.

People no longer know the meaning of the word anymore ...
Yes Corona beer ran ads saying The Drinko for Cinco de Mayo
The Fifth of Drink offends Mexicans?
French didn’t hold on to Mexico that long
Everybody know French surrender at the end
Cinco De Mayo pretty big holiday here in SO CAL because of large Mexican American population you get good food and booze on that weekend
