I don’t believe the Second Amendment was ever intended to support the kind of gun craziness we contend with today, but since it’s always used to ward off any common-sense gun reforms, maybe we ought to just fix the Constitution and be done with it.
Yes, I know the odds against that are immense, but maybe we could start by nibbling away at the idea that the Constitution is infallible or that the founders had the answers to everything. They were smart men but neither perfect nor prescient.
One of the ways they showed how smart they were, was that they made a document that could be updated when it needed to be, and today it needs to be on this issue.
We’ve had another of those disturbing clusters of shootings in Seattle the past week, and gun violence continues to injure and kill across the country in public, and frequently private, ways. Most gun deaths are suicides.
But some Americans embrace their guns even more tightly even as the headlines call out for sanity. You know what I’m talking about.

This is one of those douches that want the US to send arms to Syria, Egypt, Libya, Ukraine, etc. and all the other third world countries that DON’T have a second amendment right or any bill of rights for that matter. I suspect that in the near future we will get requests for arms for the third world countries of the EU when their financial systems finally collapse.
Common sense calls for the repeal of the rights of black males. Just last weekend we had multiple people murdered by young black males. Something must be done to curb the violence that is committed by this group of people. Maybe we should take their freedom away and make this country a safer place for our children.
It would be far easier to just make murder illegal.

Wow, I never heard of that suggestion before. What an original thinker. What would the Seattle Times do without this brilliant affirmative action hire?
If the Founders were perfect and prescient, Obama and his mother would never been allowed back in the country, and Jerry Large would be in a Federal prison.
The Second Amendment is the guarantor of the First Amendment.

Before we ATTACK this guy, we should, first, RESPECT him.
For he is saying that the CONSTITUTION does have (at least some) meaning, which puts him at odds with just about EVERY elected Democrat.
As to changing the Constitution to get rid of the Second Amendment, that is EXACTLY what supporters of gun control should do. They should work to get 2/3’s of the House and 2/3’s of the Senate, and then 3/4’s of the states to support his plan.
If he’s able to do all that, which I don’t see happening in my lifetime, so I’m not worried about it (unless Amnesty passes and we have 30 million new Democrat voters).
But if he does manage to change the Constitution, then we conservatives should ACCEPT that, for he played by the rules, and defeated us.
Just as soon as they relinquish their First Amendment rights, then they can come talk to me................

“Common Sense.” ROTFL! The meaning of that sure has changed big time since I was a kid. It once meant common sense. Now it means, surrender your rights and freedoms to the government. This clown should know better. Hey Mr. “Common Sense”! KMA!!! Too many Americans, BETTER THAN YOU, died for us to have that Second Amendment right.
Yep. 300 million people murdered by governments, 100 million in the last century alone. What could possibly go wrong if we banned guns.
