Sonia Quotamayor: Product of Affirmative Action
American Thinker ^ | 4/30/14 | William A. Levinson

Sonia the Quota, aka Sonia Quotamayor, proved what most people have known for years. Affirmative action means hiring, appointing, or promoting people for the color of their skin rather than the content of their character. Sotomayor is obviously not where she is because of her character or her qualifications. Her own words prove that she is grossly unfit to serve in any responsible judicial capacity in an equal opportunity society.

"[W]e ought not sit back and wish away, rather than confront, the racial inequality that exists in our society. It is this view that works harm, by perpetuating the facile notion that what makes race matter is acknowledging the simple truth that race does matter.”

Acceptance, acknowledgment, or tolerance of race as a factor in employment, college admissions, housing, and so on, is discrimination by definition.

One of my biggest disappointments with Reagan was his succumbing to political correctness in the 80’s by appointing the first woman to the Supreme Court bench, even though she wasn’t truly qualified.

Sandra Day O’Connor did untold damage to this country until her retirement.

And living argument against it.

The affirmative action justice appointed by the affirmative action President.

I have an elderly black friend who is an attorney. He put in an application to one of the biggies (circa 1955) and hadn't heard back.

He made an appointment, dressed up and went to the school and talked to them. He was accepted for the great person he is.

His son is also an attorney and was one of my son's best friends in high school.

Race should not be on any application.

The moral...he didn't seek out reverse racist like Sotomayer, he took care of it himself. What a great guy.

Yup, and the Peter Principle - promoted above her level of competence.

Product of corrupt, ignorant, incompetent and greedy politicians. Government made it all possible including the mess we are in currently.

My former law partner was in Madam Sotomayor’s high school class. He is a Democrat but said she was no great shakes academically and she never would have gotten into Princeton if she were not Hispanic.

What’s sad, though, is that even though your friend got where he is because of MERIT, he will always be suspected of benefiting from affirmative action, even though he didn’t! That’s one of the problems with it.

And now we have the criminalization of dissent. The Department of “Just-Us” quashes any attempts to prosecute voter suppression acts if the perpetrators are of African origin, but grinds down heavily in Texas for what is frankly a much more fairly run voter registration program.

Sotomayor is one visible consequence of affirmative action, but the actual result of affirmative action is pandemic mediocrity. That’s what you get when equality becomes its own goal.

It must pain Justice Scalia to have to deal with her in conference.

I take issue with your phrase “reverse racist”. Racism is giving preference or attributing certain characteristics to one race over another. Which race you’re talking about and what the race is of the person doing the talking is immaterial.

Mathematically I would say that racism is a scalar vector (”You’re going 100 miles an hour.”) vs. a vector one (”You’re going 100 miles an hour due north.”). The discrimination is the issue. The direction doesn’t matter.
