LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday Clippers owner Donald Sterling will be suspended for life and fined $2.5 million in response to the racist remarks he allegedly made in a recorded audio clip.
Silver spoke to the press at 11 a.m. news conference from New York, stating he will do everything in my power to force the sale of the Clippers.
The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage, Silver said. I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, he may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or decisions involving the team.

When the Clippers are sold it will not be for fire sale prices. Sterling is going to profit big time.
Then the better term would be "franchisee" with the NBA being the franchisor. What is the limiting factor? Can the NBA Board of Governors (the "owners") always expel an owner for any reason not prohibited by law? If yes, then each owner will live in fear of his fellow owners. Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban realizes the dangerous precedent that has been set. How about the other owners/franchisees?
Are the Clippers really that valuable of a franchise, who really cares for them outside of LA? And even in LA, they are a far second behind the Lakers. LA doesn’t need two basketball teams.
BUT HERE YOU ARE POSTING IN ALL CAPS.
Apparently, the NBA Constitution has a requirement that franchise owners conduct business on a "reasonable" and "ethical" level.
The powers of the owners to terminate another the franchise of another owner are contained in Paragraph 13 of the NBA Constitution (which was adopted by the NBA owners on Oct. 26, 2005). The specific reasons for termination are for gambling and the like. There's a general termination right if an owner "fails to fulfill" a "contractual obligation" in "such a way as to affect the [NBA] or its members adversely."
The alleged failed contractual obligation would be Sterling's failure to conduct business on a "reasonable" and "ethical" level.
I bet the Clippers sell for at least 600 million.
No, just for the reasons specified in Paragraph 13 of the NBA Constitution.
Pics of girlfriend, anyone?
P.T. Barnum was right.
Have you seen those NBA league bylaws?
He failed in NEITHER. And it's not possible to even obliquely make the case that he did.
NBA made this move to squelch the political fall out. Union threats etc. This is for show only. NBA has no way to enforce this, and likely doesn’t care. If Sterling decides to take it to court, the NBA has an out when they lose in court. It becomes some one else’s problem and not theirs. All depends on if Sterling decides to go along with their charade or if he tells them to take a hike. And who knows what this goof ball might do.... or what his wife might do.
Why not? They are honest about the charges for services rendered.
I assume you saw I used the word “alleged.” Check my posting history to see how infrequently I use the word “alleged.”
I’m shocked at the people who think it’s okay for the NBA to do this. Seriously.
How come castration wasn't on the table?
So now you’re accountable for the things you say in your own home, presumably also, in your own bedroom.
I thought that’s where no one was supposed to poke their nose.
Hmm.
I’d sue that !@#$ for everything she’s worth, which aint much.
On another thread today, I posted about listening to the tape of the Billionaire and the Bimbo.....everyone should listen to her baiting him in measured, "set" phrases over a protracted period of time....not natural or normal repartee between parties, deliberate questions to him in a pattern, JUST LIKE SHE WAS READING FROM A SCRIPT! Oh, yes! She was rehearsed, no doubt about it.
To save his own ego and reputation, the NBA head is going to open a lot of graves, a lot of secrets, a lot of dirt, a lot of fraud, a lot of misdeeds, a lot of collusions, a lot of blackmail....with his apparently unconstitutional penalty.
Owner Sterling will file for total discovery, both testimony under oath and documents and deals.......going all the way back to basketball's inventor, Dr. James Naismith (in 1898), hah!.
I can't wait, LOL.

I tell my fellow Christians the same thing. They don’t laugh because they know I am usually right about a lot of things.
