Is Cliven Bundy a "Racist"? Where’s the PROOF?

Media leftists falsely attack rancher Cliven Bundy as a racist.

Is Cliven Bundy a “Racist”? Where’s the PROOF?

The New American
25 April 2014

Here we go again. You had to know it was coming. When the Left wants to distract America from the central point of a burning issue, they find (or manufacture) a “gotcha” moment and yell “RACISM!”

So it is no surprise that embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, whose struggle against the federal government’s overreach has won widespread sympathy, has ended up as the latest victim of “race card” politics.

“But haven't you heard the TERRIBLE RACIST comments he made?” the critics scream. “It’s on video, in his own words; Cliven Bundy SUPORTS SLAVERY!”

Actually, yes, we’ve watched “the” video comments that have caused such a raging firestorm amongst the “progressive” mainstream-media commentariat, and that also have caused panic and consternation amongst Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians who have supported Cliven Bundy.

Many of these erstwhile supporters have been caught off-guard and frightened into denouncing Bundy as a “racist” and his remarks as “vicious” and “reprehensible.”

But it might be helpful to take a calm look at what he actually said and see if it really should be engendering so much angst and furor amongst the political and chattering classes. In the video below, from which the New York Times selected its excerpts to stir up the racism charge, Cliven Bundy makes some statements that are sympathetic to Blacks and Mexicans. He states:

I was in the Watts riots. I seen the beginning fire and I seen the last fire. What I seen was civil disturbance, people were not happy. People thinking they don’t have freedom, didn’t have these things — and they didn’t have them. We’ve progressed quite a bit from that day until now, and we sure don’t want to go back. We sure don’t want these colored people to go back to that point. We sure don’t want the Mexican people to go back to that point. And we can make a difference right now by taking care of some of these bureaucracies and do it in a peaceful way....

....

Much of what Mr. Bundy is saying closely parallels what even many black leaders, authors and intellectuals — such as Prof. Walter Williams, Rev. C.L. Bryant, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Bill Cosby, Alveda King, Star Parker, and Alan Keyes — have been saying. But Cliven Bundy’s “sin” is that he is an elderly white man who is unschooled in traversing the minefield of political correctness — and he was careless in failing to make important distinctions and clarifications. He “sinned” by being born when he was born, and failing to keep up with the constantly changing terminology for ethnic designations. He still uses the terms “Negro,” “colored people,” and “Mexican,” instead of “black/ African American” or “Hispanic/Latino” — but then, race activists still argue amongst themselves concerning the “proper” ethnic label to apply to their lineage and group identity.

Cliven was winning the PR battle. Whether he is racist or not is not important. What was not smart is to throw race into the conversation. It was totally unnecessary.

So, since it's clear that he's probably NOT a racist, the proper thing for you to do is to jump on the bandwagon along with the evil people who are calling him racist in order to distract from the core issue?

Basicly you're saying he shouldn't have said something that's not racist... he should have known the MSM would lie, and therefore he's in the wrong because of the MSM.

The facts are now all known and still a certain group of people are invested in perpetuating the meme that he’s a racist and we need to distance ourselves.

Which, if I were a GOP or liberal plant trying to stop an organization of likeminded people from forming to support him...that’s just what I’d do.

Perhaps all the lurkers and posters to the Bundy threads should consider. And then remember the names of the people doing it.

Cliven veered from cattle grazing punishable by jack booted storm troopers surrounding his family to commenting on why blacks are on welfare. He should not have done that even though it absolutely does NOT prove that he is a racist. But I give him a break because he is not a politician. I find more fault with Akin & Mourdock who were both seasoned politicians and yet made dumb statements to Media.

We call it the Nannie State for a reason..it treat you as children ..Mr Bundy seem to been try to point out that after men of ever race have fought over different times and different places to be called men, to ALL treated as men...we now have a government calling us ALL children, it treats us as children, in the hope we act as children. benevolent patronage is destructive of all, its a drug for state control

Many freepers have faulted Bundy for not being politically correct.

They say now he is a public figure he should temper his language...I call BS.

Actually if I were him, I would have stayed away from Media altogether. But Cliven was happy to see face time on TV camera’s everyday. Then it behooves for him to be more diligent in making controversial comments. It will NOT GAIN HIM ANYTHING!

Have something against Amendment the First?

I heard nothing inherently racist in what he said. That said, the more he speaks of MSM bias/racist slant, good on him.

Eric Holder was right; when it come to race, we are a Nation of cowards. Conservatives speak of race, the Statists call us “racist”, and we cower.

The only difference between Alveda King, and Cliven Bundy is the color of their skin....tell Dr. King to shut up. Are you ashamed of whites? Or are you afraid of being labeled a racist, or a “Tom”?

They seem to want a blow-dried poll-tested focus group trained plastic banana robot to follow before they will stand up against the lawlessness of the government. As if they would stand up and take a risk if they got one.

I am not saying that he said anything racist. What I am saying is that he totally changed the discussion. He was winning and now he is losing. There was ZERO reason for him to say anything other then the government is screwing with him. No he had to go on some tangent which was unnecessary. I guess he feels that this is the important discussion that needs to be the focus and not the federal government getting into his business. He totally screwed himself. Sure he has his first amendment rights, but what do you think is going to happen in the next couple months when the feds come for him again? He will not have his supporters that is for sure. He did it to himself. He should be proud of his first amendment rights. He must have some sort of agenda that the rest of America does not have insight on. We will see how he ends up.

I might consider agreeing with you if Bundy were a younger man, on his way up the corporate ladder, or planning on running for office.

But he isn’t. He is an old man, and a private person. At his age, he is probably sick of the years of witnessing the long slow decline of our county, and doesn’t give a flying flip about offending the idiots in DC and the media.

I am an old woman, and am sick and tired of the social pressure to be pleasant and polite to idiots and fools. It is “high-time” to call them out on the damage they are doing to what is left of our culture and country.

I agree with him, and so did Daniel Patrick Moynihan (Senator, D-NY) who warned against welfare back in the mid-sixties, predicting that it would destroy the black family, and the black community.

He probably thought that he had a lot of supporters, and he foolishly allowed himself to be manipulated by the media. He let his guard down, and forgot that the media is his enemy.

That said... if anyone who did support him is thinking of changing their position because of this non-racist racist comment, then the media has won this battle.

I for one choose to not allow myself to be swayed by the media and their false race card.

Since when does it matter is he racist or not? Does it justify a kulak treatment towards him or what?

I don’t think he intended to change the discussion, naps. I think the media wanted to get him to say something they could use to try to “re-direct” the folks who aren’t inclined to think objectively about the present reality.

From what I read around the ‘net, most serious thinkers are on his side, and are ridiculing the media, including Beck and Hannity for being so shallow.

Actually, since I mentioned Glenn Beck, there is every possibility that he has lost a good portion of his audience with his pathetic metamorphosis into an “Elmer Gantry” figure.

But, since most folks probably have no memory of that movie, that reference will have no meaning.
