Is Cliven Bundy a "Racist"? Where’s the PROOF?

Media leftists falsely attack rancher Cliven Bundy as a racist.

Is Cliven Bundy a “Racist”? Where’s the PROOF?

The New American
25 April 2014

Here we go again. You had to know it was coming. When the Left wants to distract America from the central point of a burning issue, they find (or manufacture) a “gotcha” moment and yell “RACISM!”

So it is no surprise that embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, whose struggle against the federal government’s overreach has won widespread sympathy, has ended up as the latest victim of “race card” politics.

“But haven't you heard the TERRIBLE RACIST comments he made?” the critics scream. “It’s on video, in his own words; Cliven Bundy SUPORTS SLAVERY!”

Actually, yes, we’ve watched “the” video comments that have caused such a raging firestorm amongst the “progressive” mainstream-media commentariat, and that also have caused panic and consternation amongst Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians who have supported Cliven Bundy.

Many of these erstwhile supporters have been caught off-guard and frightened into denouncing Bundy as a “racist” and his remarks as “vicious” and “reprehensible.”

But it might be helpful to take a calm look at what he actually said and see if it really should be engendering so much angst and furor amongst the political and chattering classes. In the video below, from which the New York Times selected its excerpts to stir up the racism charge, Cliven Bundy makes some statements that are sympathetic to Blacks and Mexicans. He states:

I was in the Watts riots. I seen the beginning fire and I seen the last fire. What I seen was civil disturbance, people were not happy. People thinking they don’t have freedom, didn’t have these things — and they didn’t have them. We’ve progressed quite a bit from that day until now, and we sure don’t want to go back. We sure don’t want these colored people to go back to that point. We sure don’t want the Mexican people to go back to that point. And we can make a difference right now by taking care of some of these bureaucracies and do it in a peaceful way....

....

Much of what Mr. Bundy is saying closely parallels what even many black leaders, authors and intellectuals — such as Prof. Walter Williams, Rev. C.L. Bryant, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Bill Cosby, Alveda King, Star Parker, and Alan Keyes — have been saying. But Cliven Bundy’s “sin” is that he is an elderly white man who is unschooled in traversing the minefield of political correctness — and he was careless in failing to make important distinctions and clarifications. He “sinned” by being born when he was born, and failing to keep up with the constantly changing terminology for ethnic designations. He still uses the terms “Negro,” “colored people,” and “Mexican,” instead of “black/ African American” or “Hispanic/Latino” — but then, race activists still argue amongst themselves concerning the “proper” ethnic label to apply to their lineage and group identity.

And just look how many ‘good’ little ahem...’conservative’ helpers Harry and the left have throughout the right win websphere blasting Palin, condemning Bundy and siding with RonPaul Jr. even after his Reagan attack.

No need for Harry to do much. There are plenty of ‘us’ doing it for him. Well nut ‘us’ ‘us’ but those pretending to be ‘us’.

They threw race in because Bundy was winning the PR battle with We the People.

Bundy threw race into it. The Democrats could not have done a better job if they tried. Democrats are so dang lucky. They have things fall in their laps. We work so hard to be moral folks and get screwed by big mouths. Why do you think we lost 2012...because of big mouth idiots who could not keep their mouth shut. There was no reason for this goon to say anything he did. He was winning. All he had to do was go back to getting his cows fed. No he thought he would be a superstar.....he failed badly and hurt the conservatives in the process.

“Where’s the proof?”

Just ask Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck. (sarc)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Clive Bundy has spent his entire life from the time he was a little boy working hard for other people. He sees the world from that perspective. He sees a lot of people who are not working but are getting benefits and he realizes as a lot of folks on Freerepublic do that this is not good for those folks. Mr. Mercat and I hope raised our kids to work hard and see that when they do so they are happier. So I’m not thinking he has animosity towards these people. His mistake is that he identified the people who are takers, not workers as being largely black and then he used the word “slavery.” He knows that slavery is working hard for other people. He doesn’t believe he is enslaved. He doesn’t understand the lack of freedom and the harsh conditions. But then he didn’t have a lot of freedom and he grew up in harsh conditions. Mr. Mercat had ancestors who were indentured servants. I guess it has to do with being enslaved because of a physical condition, skin color, that you can’t change. My dad was unusual in that he was a civil rights advocate in the south in the 50s. That’s how I was raised. Saying the “N” word was a spanking offense. But he had a very 19th century attitude towards women and marriage and faith. So I say put Clive Bundy in context and let it go. He’s not a threat. His position on the land good or bad is not something to tie to his ramblings about race and welfare.

Irrelevant.

If a racist says 2+2=4, is he wrong?

You just don’t give a care about getting the Senate in November. You just care about this guy. Well good luck. You and your buddy has just made getting the Senate that much harder. Thanks for nothing. Now go find his cows.

Baffles me why it hasn’t been stopped. But it does serve to expose all the lurkers to the frauds here pretending to be conservative. I guess they know better than the blacks in all those vids I watched this morning who said he was 100% right.

White liberals often do claim to know better than them so no shock.

Clearly racist. The black man was forced to stand in shadow and the white man is wearing light clothing. This serves 2 purposes. It perpetuates the fatigue wearing black man as a dark threat and helps to ensure the GOP loses the senate...

Oh wait...sorry. That kind of thinking is the domain of idiots. ;)

Just what did he say that was wrong?

He said that things were bad in the past and we don’t want to go back yet there have been generations that have been paid to self destruct and the drive to work hard has disappeared in much of the black population. (Yep)

He said he didn’t understand the ruckus over Mexicans because the ones he knew worked hard and cherished their families. (Oh the racist horror)

Now, he did not say it in PC language because you can’t speak the truth and be politically correct at the same time.

Cliven may or may not be “racist”, but he is clearly too stupid to effectively communicate in the year 2014. I have seen the complete, unedited version of his TV interview, and I saw a buffoon. If the Left wanted to cast a story with their version of a right-wing clown, Cliven would be their dream pick.

Read post 28. the concern is ‘winning’. Nothing else. There are a number of people willing to ignore honesty, truth, principle and the very things that make America “America”. Sacrifices must be made you see.

Not sure what the real term is for them but it ain’t ‘conservative’. Wait. That’s not true. there is a real name for them. I just can’t type it on this forum.

This Birchite magazine makes a good point. I just watched the videotape and Bundy makes an interesting point about the destruction of the black family NOW and not when slavery was in practice. This is just the demonization of the fellow so there can be a Waco style take down of the man.

Also, terms such as Negro and Colored are superior to black (which carries negative connotations) -- not to mention african american (which is just plain silly as Sidney Poitier's descendants do not hail from Africa).

Mr. Bundy is not media savy or sensitive to our pc culture as is needed to be loved these days -- but that does not make him a racist.

Wasn’t the gist of what Bundy said was that the urban black of today has traded the slavery to man for the slavery to government?

I thought that Eric the Red wanted to have a conversation on civil right?
