Republicans including possible 2016 candidate Rand Paul -- are scrambling to distance themselves from defiant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after he made startling comments about slavery and African-Americans in a New York Times article published Wednesday night.
From the Times Adam Nagourney:
I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didnt have nothing to do. They didnt have nothing for their kids to do. They didnt have nothing for their young girls to do.
And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom.
Bundy had previously drawn support from some GOP lawmakers for his clash with the Bureau of Land Management.

In statements after Bundys remarks, both Paul and Heller condemned his comments.
"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him, said Paul.
And a spokesman for Heller told the Times that the senator completely disagrees with Mr. Bundys appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way.

Why does this remind me of comments made by Phil Robertson?
And what are millions of blacks now. It depends on your interpretation of slave. Slave to the State or slave to a land owner. Take your pick. Bundy is right on and I feel his words got the point across to the intelligent who really think. Unfortunately we have little intelligent in America now.
I concur.
Thats affirmative and a big ole 10-4 on that there.
Apparently at a press conference that only the NYT was an and there were no recordings.
So take it with as much salt as you wish.
Why does this remind me of comments made by Phil Robertson?

I don’t know. Why? See my comments in post 59.
What Phil said was warmly recieved by America and A&E’s efforts to disparage Duck Dynasty failed.
What Phil said was a victory for conservatives. What Bundy said is - well just stupid and embarrassing.
Keep in mind that NO RECORDINGS have been produced. Also this was supposedly said at a press conference LAST SATURDAY and yet we are just now hearing about it? Thus far, the only source is a NYT source who “overheard” it during a press conference where miraculously no recording device has produced any such recording.
Slavery is the goal of the totalitarian. That is why America and our Constitution are unique in the world. But the totalitarian cannot tolerate freedom.
Explain ‘ouch’ to me.
What about this was inaccurate? What about this, exactly, was racist?
Finally, what about this was materially any different than the comments Jesse Jackson or Bill Cosby has made in the past?
I’ll tell you what the difference is - he’s white.
My only conclusion: Rand Paul believes that free speech exists only for protected classes. The rest of you, shut up and take it.
We are all slaves but most don’t know or acknowledge it.
We are allowed to breathe. Think you own anything in this world? Try not paying the tax owed on it and see how fast it is no longer YOURS.
Bundy needs to shut up and move on with his ranching. Next item he’ll be facing is attempts
to collect fees for grazing. But he says he’ll continue on with his press conferences.

He said he would continue holding a daily news conference; on Saturday, it drew one
reporter and one photographer, so Mr. Bundy used the time to officiate at what was in
effect a town meeting with supporters, discussing, in a long, loping discourse, the
prevalence of abortion, the abuses of welfare and his views on race.
end snip
A Republican politician who gave him support and called him a patriot condemns the remarks?
Just.. The United Negro College Fund, The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Womens Clubs, National Association of Negro Musician, National Negro Golf Association...
WELL HARRY REID DID SAY SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN DIDN’T HE?
Where he is dead wrong is his belief that slaves had a family life.
Democrat/Progressive policies have destroyed the black family and are destroying the ideal of America.
I don’t even get why folks are even arguing over this. Perhaps EVERYBODY should wait for VERIFICATION. Keep in mind these statements were supposedly made at a press conference LAST SATURDAY which were supposedly “overhead” by an NYT source. Thus far, NO RECORDINGS have been produced.
When I’m arguing race on liberal sites, I’m very carefull to call them negroes. It drives the progressives nuts.
But I make it clear that I also call whites “caucasian”. So they can whine all they want. I’m just trying to be precise. “negro” is not and never was used as a derogatory term. It is a technical label, nothing more.
The dialog has begun.
This is a good thing.
