MILFORD, Ohio - An 89-year-old southwest Ohio woman is preparing to move out of her home of the last 10 years because it has gone smoke-free.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Beulah "Billie" Toombs faces eviction after being deemed non-compliant by her apartment building's management. A smoker for seven decades or so, she thinks she should be allowed to do what she wants in her own home.
But more than a year ago, the management of the apartments for low-income seniors announced a smoke-free policy. Residents already there were allowed one year of smoking with some conditions. When the smoke-free policy kicked in this year, neighbors reported Toombs' smoking, and a regular apartment inspection this month found cigarette butts and ashtrays in her unit.
So Toombs is looking for a new home.
“..she thinks she should be allowed to do what she wants in her own home.”
It’s an apartment! She will never own it (except maybe out here in San Francisco where people over 60 cannot be forced out of a rental property except for non-payment of the rent).
What I can't seem to stop are sales robo calls on my “unlisted” house phone so I turned it down so I can't hear it. They call and leave no message and there is one who is looking for someone I never heard of so they just want you to answer. Very few people have my cell number. Hopefully, sales people won't figure out how to mess with our cell phones. Phones are an intrusion on our privacy.
Mark Twain thought the same about mail. He never opened his mail. He said if it was important, someone would come see him about it and if it was unimportant, it wasn't worth opening anyway. I wonder what his attitude would be today with all the outside methods today wanting to contact us for nothing important.
Why are you so pathologically obsessed with smokers? You frighten me dude.......
Hardly. If you can afford to buy cigs while using my tax dollars to subsidize your living quarters, then you don't need as many of my tax dollars to subsidize your living quarters.

I love the sight of a good apparatchik in the morning! Dosvedanya, comrade!
Same reason drug users get an EBT card.
He’s always been this way on FR. One trick pony.

she probably smokes 2-5 cigs a day. theyre something like 25 cents each in Ohio
drop in the bucket compared to housing costs
She’s been smoking for 68 years & her lung feels great!
Very sad that she is so addicted to nicotine.
An 89 year old smoker, who has smoked for 70 years ... I wouldn’t quit either ...
Seriously she is 89 & in this particular case she did not suffer any fatal adverse consequences - To a smoker there is pleasure in smoking. What would be the point in her quiting now. She could cut a 1/2 second of her time in the 40. LOL
I guess at 89 she can make up her own mind then.
>> Intellectual consistency is not one of Free Republics strong suits.
>> people would understand your point.
That’s a generous but casuistic remark concerning Drango’s perspective.
Reminds me of an interview of George Burns who was in his late 90’s at the time:
“Is it true that you smoke eight to ten cigars a day?”
“That’s true.”
“Is it true that you drink five martinis a day?”
“That’s true.”
“Is it true that you still surround yourself with beautiful young women?”
“That’s true.”
“What do your doctor’s say about all of this?”
“I don’t know .. they’re all dead.”
I know, but I finally had to say something......
“HAHAHAHA. What planet has this woman been living on?”
The unbearable one that toxic liberals, and their followers have made.
I just feel sorry for people who are addicted to any substance. Very sad.
I think it has something to do with helping them vote Democrat.
