An Ohio woman has recounted the moment an act of kindness in helping a perceived pair of broken-down strangers left her being dragged, beaten and robbed on the side of a road.
"Before I could finish asking him if they were OK he grabbed me by the hair and said, 'if you scream I'll hit you even harder,'" 19-year-old Caleigh Roelfs recalled to the Daily News Thursday.
It was 2 p.m. Monday along Napoleon's Route 6 when the engaged criminal psychology student spotted a van with its emergency lights flashing on the side of the road.
"My dad and brothers, even my mom, have always stopped. That's how I was raised," she said of her immediate impulse to help.
But within seconds of the van's passenger stepping out of his vehicle, she lost all control.
The man, she described as a 6-foot black male with a shaved head, face and spider web tattoo on his left hand, violently grabbed her while she was still seated in her car....

That would make for a great bumper sticker.
She is lucky, and less naive now. Hope she shares this important lesson with others...
“......a 6-foot black male”..........
And the woman stopped to help the guy? Guess how many times she will ever consider helping ANYONE from now on?
Too bad she did have a revolver in her purse and shot the bastard between the eyes.
I liked your post #22. I totally agree that you have obligations to significant other people—and in your case, pets—in your life and you should not put your life in jeopardy in situations such as the one at issue.

Sad, but there was a time that we helped each other in this society. Hasn’t been that way in a long time—probably before I was born.
Unfortunately, this poor fellow learned the hard way.
Double-bad...I should’ve read before posting above—this was a woman! What the hell was she thinking?
From the article, “Asked if she would ever stop again she replied, “Not by myself. Never again”.
I’m not defending this young woman’s decision to stop. That being said, I understand her statement that she was brought up that way. Her Mom, Dad and brothers have always stopped. She’s 19 and perhaps... her parents have shielded her from the dangers of this world and expected their kids to help others. I was raised in a different type of area. You don’t stop unless: it is a Mom with kids or an older person. This is what saddens me: our society has become so violent that good people can no longer offer aid. I thank God that this gal wasn’t raped and had her throat slit. She learned a new life lesson.. and unfortunate one but this incident (believe it or not) may keep her safer in the future. IMHO.
“Arent those unfortunate young people already dumb enough?”
Hopefully the lesson is learned; she shouldn’t have stopped even if the guys were white.
And that includes other black guys.
“criminal psychology student”
probably a bleeding-heart liberal who thinks that certain segments of society are poor, oppressed and downtrodden.
I doubt she learned a valuable lesson in reality.
In Rich’s (partial) defense, it would not have been a great deal more wise for her to stop had it been two white guys.
That said, attacking someone who stops to help you has go to be among the most morally despicable acts imaginable.
Her parents should have given her “The Talk, Non Black Version” and she would have been forewarned.

Not a hard and fast case. Some years ago while driving home from work, I saw a black guy carrying a gas can walking down the road. He had several miles to go to a gas station, and it was pretty hot. I gave him a lift to the station and back to his car. He thanked me profusely and invited me to a party. I’m not a party guy for anybody, white or black, so I said thanks but no, and never saw him again. I might not do it again, but never say never.
Ball pythons have eyelids? ;)

19....can’t carry
In 1973, while riding my Triumph 650, I stopped for Keith (Bandit) Ball and his buddy, flying colors, just a few miles after they’d successfully scared the crap outta me, by passing me on both sides.
(southbound I-5)
They appreciated the help, but told me directly, NEVER STOP for bikers flying colors!
Keith was co-editor for Easyrider mag. at the time.
Yeah, and anyone that doesn’t stop to help them will be condemned as “racist”.
