MOUNTAIN VIEW (KPIX 5) While open enrollment for coverage under the Affordable Care Act is closed, many of the newly insured are finding they cant find doctors, landing them into a state described as medical homelessness.
Rotacare, a free clinic for the uninsured in Mountain View, is dealing with the problem firsthand.
Mirella Nguyen works at the clinic said staffers dutifully helped uninsured clients sign up for Obamacare so they would no longer need the free clinic.
But months later, the clinics former patients are coming back to the clinic begging for help. Theyre coming back to us now and saying I cant find a doctor, said Nguyen.
Thinn Ong was thrilled to qualify for a subsidy on the health care exchange. She is paying $200 a month in premiums. But the single mother of two is asking, what for?
Yeah, I sign it. I got it. But wheres my doctor? Whos my doctor? I dont know, said a frustrated Ong.
Nguyen said the newly insured patients checked the physicians lists they were provided and were told they werent accepting new patients or they did not participate in the plan.
And Nguyen says while the free clinic isnt technically supposed to be treating former patents they signed up for insurance, they cant in good faith turn them away.
Dr. Kevin Grumbach of UCSF called the phenomenon medical homelessness, where patients are caught adrift in a system woefully short of primary care doctors.
Those who cant find a doctor are supposed to lodge a complaint with state regulators, who have been denying the existence of a doctor shortage for months.
Meanwhile, the sick and insured cant get appointments.
What good is coverage if you cant use it? Nguyen said.

what good is taxation without representation???
Show them a pic of Bammy and declare them cured.
I knew this was coming as soon as they announced the ACA. Many doctors wouldn’t participate and/or would close their practices. Since so many providers are already close to overload, they’d quickly fill up (or even reduce the number of patients they’d be willing to put on their list). On top of that, the ACA was already not going to even try to include all providers; patients were going to get significantly-truncated lists of providers to choose from, and there were many reports that patients wouldn’t be allowed to go as far afield to locate one either (more limited coverage area).
Now it’s starting. These are just the first reports, and more are on the way.
List ping.
Well what do you want for nothing, a rubber biscuit?
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
No problem. Have the government require the docs to serve everyone. If they try to retire, confiscate their savings and investments.
Maybe they should pay twice as much, so they can get twice as less doctors...
I laugh at all LIB/DIM supporters who have such problems. Death panels may soon have you on their lists. Bwahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
These dumb obamadroids are discovering that having health insurance does not mean you are going to get health CARE!
Why the complaining? They’re insured, and that’s all that matters.
Yes, it’s country wide and it will be a major problem for years to come. Unless major changes are made, it will be the destruction of our Health Care system..as fragile as it is anyway. The good part is that many Doctors are getting out of the Medicaid/Medicare business and may still make it but that is not good news for patients.
The overall result is loss of Doctors, loss of Hospitals, loss of care... So this grand law will have the effect of giving insurance to 20 million or so and taking away the health care of 60 million...great idea these Democrats had.
What good if insurance if no Doctors or Hospitals will take it?
Healthcare is not insurance, it is Doctor’s care that is required, the Democrats do not seem to know the difference!
But but but!!!! The rich people were supposed to pay!!!!! And the rest was going to come from Obama’s stash
They should have stayed with state Medicaid. Paying a premium for non-existent health care coverage is for suckers.
They figured on getting something for nothing. Instead they are getting nothing
I thought Jeff Chandler is dead.
Not many doctors accept new Medicaid patients.
Even Medicare patients have trouble finding new doctors.
Obamacare sucks as do the insurance execs and boards that also betrayed the nation in cooperating with socialism.
