My theme this week is for'special dedicated to all the Joe Walsh fans in the house. Now that of course includes all the Eagles, Barnstorm & James Gang fans as well and some other goodies including Joe jamming with Willie Nelson, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Etta James, Albert Collins, Jay Ferguson, Dave Mason, George Harrison, Albert Lee, Jonny Lang, Steve Winwood and Toby Keith to name a few. In a bit of a one-off I'm posting no studio Joe tonight (unless of course those requests start rolling in), but this is an entire jukebox of live performances spanning Joe's almost 50 year recording career.
Anyone who's ever attended a Joe Walsh show knows anything can happen and I've culled these concert appearances from various promotional and bootleg sources as well as his rare live albums. Joe is a prolific songwriter having penned some of the greatest classic rock songs of the 70s and 80s as well as some stunningly beautiful ballads, like this first one from the mid-80s which Joe wrote for the Eagles before they broke up (the first time). It's a shout out to my lifetime BFF Mike Troyer who was my go-to guitar slinger in about a thousand bands. "Things to remember, places to go ..."

HOLY WEEK AND EASTERLast year I went through Andrew Lloyd Webbers opera Jesus Christ Superstar, laying out his genius at using the basic building blocks of opera. I took a look at Gustav Mahlers Resurrection Symphony, a 90 minute behemoth that is nothing less than an entire theology expressed in music.
This year, Im going to do something different.
In 1786, Franz Joseph Haydn wrote a devotional meditation centered on the last words attributed to Christ. It was originally written for string quartet, a medium that Haydn himself invented. This is a 75 minute piece best absorbed when at prayer. Set it aside for the proper time.

I’m off the pain meds as of today AZ -(I saved one to get me through tonight). I’m certainly healing, but still have about three weeks before I’m supposed to lift more than a gallon of milk (much to the chagrin of Alex and Chelsea at church who think a Sunday without a buckaroo swing and hip toss is a bit of a let down).
