She’s called herself between agnostic and atheist in times past. It’s good some women have been apart of this go round with her since she’s had a history of being backed into corners then casting aspersions on the motives of Christian male freepers who continued to pursue arguments with her. Some freepers have tried to chat her up which didn’t help anything.

Believing that those that love him follow his commandments.

Could you post these?

My seeing eye dog could then read them to me.

So why not drop your man made religion, and adopt the way that the Father provided, and that the Son said would prevail as long as the Earth remains?

I would; but everything is SO confusing!!!

You see; I'm a Gentile, and...

Acts 15

The Council at Jerusalem
1 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me. 14 Simon[a] has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

16 “‘After this I will return
   and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
   and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b]
18 things known from long ago.[c]

19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

The Council’s Letter to Gentile Believers
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

   Greetings.

24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

   Farewell.

30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] [d] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas
36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Born in Bethlehem is, but most of the rest of the list is merely cherry-picked verses taken out of context and lined up against a years-later account that has been molded to fit as many of these isolated phrases as possible.

Most?

Which ones are not?

Despite being asked, I don’t believe I’ve read that she’s identified what, if any beliefs she claims as her own.

Then you've not been listening.

She believes she's right.

A person who is sure they are right, would not, in my opinion, waste her time trying to convince a bunch of strangers on the Internet.

A person who is not quite sure they are right, might seek out the wisdom of the crowd to see if she is.

I responded....”You want to know the ‘requirements’ of the Messiah from a Jewish perspective and how would they identify Him”.....
Your response...”That’s the first part. Why do I want to know that?” How about you just continue with why that may be significant to you...

Because the way in which Jesus' biography is crafted to fit some of those requirements is very suspicious.

-Must be born in Bethlehem... but Jesus was from Nazareth. Ah, but through a strange quirk of fate, his heavily pregnant mother was compelled to travel almost 80 miles to take part in a census. There is no record in Josephus of a census, and even if there was, this isn't generally how they are conducted, and even if they were, one does not drag a pregnant woman across the country. And even if you did, why would the Romans conduct such a matter in Bethlehem and not Jerusalem? This is very suspicious.

-Cannot be descended from Solomon. Joseph was descended from Solomon... this is undoubtedly why Jesus claimed Joseph was not his real father. It would have disqualified him. Given the propensity for Greek and Roman heroes to be descended from gods, it was probably not as crazy sounding then. Just a way to avoid being declared ineligible for the position.

-Being born of a virgin wasn't one of the requirements. That "born of a virgin and called Emmanuel" (which Jesus was not called) was a sign of something else entirely.

All the rest of the so-called parallels are cherry-picked and after the fact. Things no Jew would recognize.

Well of course they wouldn't be able to understand how these compliment and fit Jesus Christ....unless they also understood what was written concerning him. Many then did not and today still do not....rather they believe as they are taught by their Rabbi's....

I could argue all these prophecies, just as others have here, but it wouldn't convince you regardless of the evidence given, at least it appears so at this time..... I say this because you are approaching Jesus from the position that Jesus was NOT accepted as the Messiah by the Jews rather than ask what was it that convinced the Jews He was the Messiah.

I do, however, find it interesting you're referencing Josephus as I understood you were not open to anything for reference outside and only the KJ version of the Bible. What's changed. (???)..... Am saying this since you'll look toward an historian, subject to his own leanings, yet you argue that the NT authors, many who actually lived and walked with Jesus, are somehow less reliable....It would certainly be logical to place more significance on those who were actually with Him.

But let me say that one doesn't have ‘to fit’ Jewish requirements to the Biography/Prophecies of Jesus. (Though this is a standard argument Jews are often taught)..... The Christian understanding from the Old Testament, 'when compared' with the details of Jesus’ words and actions (as recorded by the Jewish followers and writers of the New Testament), is a very reasonable one,.... and is actually a 'better' one than Jewish explanations of the relationship between the Suffering/Rejected messianic figure and the Victorious/Acclaimed messianic figure.....It wasn't just a Victorious Messiah Jews were seeking, the Jewish Leadership also understood He would suffer and be rejected.

Just as the OT taught and as Jewish teaching recognized identifying the Messiah was, and is still today, dependent on Israel changing her mind about Jesus, about truth, and about social justice. All which Jesus taught during His ministry....to the crowds...to the diciples...and to the individuals.

.....”I think that it partially has to do with their Collective sense of God some day saving their nation vs the individual accountability each man has before God”.....

I agree, which is also why it’s so important for the Jewish people to return to Israel to many of them. The event of Messiah will take place there.

You are correct..”the natural an doesn’t understand such love” God has for all men......but you see of course, that should Jews recognize their personal responsibiity before God, and according to their laws they have all failed which then it’s much easier to hold a “collective” mindset concerning Jesus Christ.

To them how could a loving God send anyone to a “burning fire pit”.

I enjoyed and very much appreciate your post, Caww. Thanks for pinging me.

I’ll add the following:

The precise date of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem of Messiah and His crucifixion were predicted in the Book of Daniel hundreds of years before their happening. Precision being to the very day, not year nor month, but to the day. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy, along with the many HUNDREDS besides. The problem the Jewish people face is that if Jesus was not the predicted Messiah, then the Book of Daniel was wrong … and there can be NO error in the The Book or the whole of it is wrong, meaning God broke His covenant – which He cannot do. Hence, the proposal by some that “Daniel” was written at a later date because it poses a real problem for Jews who deny Jesus as Messiah:

If Jesus was not Messiah predicted in Daniel: 1) The OT is wrong and if wrong in one part, wrong in total. (By their own standards, if one letter is off and no matter how long it took to copy the Tanakh, the whole thing is scrapped); or 2) no Messiah is forthcoming because the predicted date has long passed.

I’m trying to recall from the memory the Rabbi who left the note naming Messiah, but can’t at the moment. The note was to be opened one year after the Rabbi’s death. It stated, of course, that Jesus was indeed Messiah.

At any rate, if the precision of Daniel is not proof enough, I don’t believe there will be proof sufficient to convince a non-believer of Jesus being the predicted Messiah.

Warm Regards,

SC

Your insistence on inverting the meaning of Acts 15 is to your own eternal detriment.

Acts 15 was an instruction on how to reintroduce the dispersion of Israel to the Torah gently and effectively.
