Fox News' host Bill O'Reilly has devoted many broadcasts of this TV show, "The O'Reilly Factor," to what he believes are problems in the black community.
O'Reilly, who has blamed black crime on black, unwed mothers, interviewed Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach John Calipari last night about controlling his black players, notes Salon.com (video below).
According to New York Magazine, during the interview, O'Reilly asked Calipari, "I don't know if you listen to this rap stuff and the hip-hop stuff, but it has coarsened. Has that changed their attitude? How do you impose discipline on kids who are gonna do what they're gonna do?"
Calipari looked visibly uncomfortable, but told O'Reilly how important it was that he gained his players' trust and that they know their coach is looking out for their best interests.
"But do they act differently toward you?" asked O'Reilly. "Do they use four-letter words?"
Calipari denied they do, but admitted that many of the players grew up without dads, and then added, "Some of the best kids I coached were raised by a grandmother who was so firm that they understood."
O'Reilly then asked, "How do you keep them away from temptation with the hustlers everywhere?"
"There are drugs everywhere," said O'Reilly. "They're giving the kids drugs for free, how do you keep them away from that?"
Calipari again explained how the kids come to the school to play basketball and learn, but O'Reilly still wasn't satisfied.
"Do you have guys on them all the time? Curfews? Coaches watching them? Drug testing? Do you drug test?"
Calipari explained how he uses NBA security on the road to keep bad influences away from his players, but added the kids are from good homes.
Calipari, could not control them at U Con or U of Memphis, what makes Bill think he can at Ky?
better question to ask is are you going to pull the same recruiting stunts you pulled at U Con and U of Memphis, on KY?
U of M lost those awards, titles, etc. U of M’s new coach Josh Pastnor (SP?) is a far better coach than Calipari ever was. Higher grad rate too.
"Bill, I know must be tempted by all the attractive women in the FOX News studios, Does FOX News have eyes on you all the time to make sure you're not harassing them to the point they sue you?
Whatever BOR is, this is a legitimate line of questioning. You have a coach of an elite sports program who, aside from instructing men in basketball, has the added duty of keeping them out of trouble. I think shining a light on just how difficult that second task has become makes an important societal commentary.
As for BOR being racist he is describing anti-social behavior without mentioning race. The only racial connection, which BOR does not make, is that poor behavior is common amongst elite college basketball players and most elite college basketball players are black.
Like him or not, he presented several great ideas about the state of the NCAA and was very sincere. He was also promoting his new book "Coaching from the inside out."
He did not say “Black”, he said “kids”, he said “them”.....bad headline for the content and exact quotes.....spinning
visit your local inner city school, watch a class change, eat lunch in the cafeteria and sit in a class room, then come back with your adjusted attitude.
While I don’t care for Bill O, I don’t consider him asking these kinds of questions wrong in anyway.
This seems like a thinly disguised liberal hate site. This is the second piece from it - both were hate pieces targeted at conservatives. I really don’t see why it’s posted here...
I don’t see anything wrong with the questions and I am no BOR fan
He asked how to deal with talent from the hood.
I do love to watch race baiting Freeper lips curl though....
Boy...we have few of them now though compared to the old days
When they just sat on threads dying to say something was racist
At this point I am long out of give a damn about what passes for white racism today
Ridiculous
And linked from leftist site
Wonderful
BOR is a jackass not a Nazi
That is what the left thinks
I agree
And to watch dummies here self flagellate over it
While I am often warmed by Freeper intellect wit and ingenuity I am just as dismayed by the sheer stupidity and knee jerk race fawning and intellectual laziness of far too many
You must have a death wish......
Frankly, you can adjust YOUR attitude. I don't need you to tell me what I already know.
it better shows how naive you are.
As I suggested to another, go to an inner city school and spend the day, perhaps you might learn something.
Believe me, no “magic” happens between HS and college where manners, respect and civility are concerned.
No fan of Bill O, but I think he’s asking a legit question, where folks can handle it or not.

I'm inclined to agree with you.
I work it skippy and YOU can’t tell me what my experiences are. You prefer to be blind and dumb.... AND for the FR censors, PROVE me wrong and Don’t judge me by your opinions and your failure to look at a subject objectively.
I don’t understand what you are saying.
I can’t think of any reason to post liberal hate pieces... the site you’ve chosen is a thinly disguised hate site. Why did you want to share something this offensive?
I can’t think of any reason to post liberal hate pieces...
I can. They stimulate good dialogue. And WHO said this is a liberal hate piece?
the site you’ve chosen is a thinly disguised hate site.
Oh Please. It has a liberal slant. So does 95% of all sources here at FR.
Why did you want to share something this offensive?
What offends you? An attack on BOR? BOR himself? Don't call that wahhhmbulance just yet. Try explaining what you agree or disagree with.
You’re just out looking for an argument because you think you have some special understanding of whatever. You don’t. If you’re so engrained in “working it” then you can’t be objective, either. I also don’t resort to epithets, even of the politest kind [ala Skippy -meant to imply whatever denigration you think is cute].
I don’t judge you. I know what you are and, frankly, just disregard it with all the rest of the bleeders out there.
Look, when it’s this hateful it’s demoralizing to conservatives. As far as getting a discussion going that’s crap when it’s a hate site. I’m not the only person in this thread who felt this way. It’s your call but I find it offensive.
