WASHINGTON Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said Tuesday that Republicans need to show Hispanic voters that they are not just the party of deportation.
During a symposium at the Newseum on conservative engagement with Hispanic media outlets, Paul also said Republicans have plenty of ideas that appeal to Latinos, but acknowledged, We got to get beyond deportation to get to the rest of the issues.
The bottom line is that the Hispanic community, the Latino community, is not going to hear us until we get beyond that issue. Theyre not going to care whether we go to the same church or have the same values or believe in the same kind of future of the country until we get beyond that. So showing up helps. But you got to show up and you got to say something and its has to be different than what weve been saying.

Hey Rand ? should Republicans show criminals who might happen to vote that they are not "just the party of enforcing laws" amd we need to get beyond those silly issues ?
why should Americans grovel and pander to a bunch of invaders of our republic ? that's stupid and anyone who seriously wants you to be president needs to have a few synapses checked.
Maybe we just “cannot be the party of Rand Paul”?
Is Rand Paul’s fan club on FR still denying that he’s pro-amnesty?
Is it me or does it seem like Rand Paul is fizzling out as a principled Presidential candidate before the campaign begins.
Is there no one who stands with their own countrymen?
Now that he apparently thinks he’s the frontrunner going into 2016, he’s tacking furiously to the left. I don’t have any use for such an unprincipled candidate.
We won't know until we try it.
Actually, maybe we can just classify GOPe (RINO Party) and the Republican Wing of the Republican Party, we now know which wing to place Rand(y)!
I have to wonder what they are spewing on Telemundo...
I have heard libs CLAIM that the Conservatives want to DEPORT American Citizens of Latino Ancestry who have been legal citizens for MANY generations......
Which is an out and out BALD FACED LIE.
If we are not going to DEPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS..... Are we going to NOT jail people who decide not to pay any TAXES?
Because I could get behind that if the Statists want to play that game...
Is it me or does it seem like Rand Paul is fizzling out as a principled Presidential candidate before the campaign begins.
This is one time that Rand Really needs to stick his wetted finger intot he air and see what way the wind blows because most ALL polls indicate that WELL OVER 60% of Americans support deportation of ILLEGAL ALIENS....
Rand, you are becoming SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT!
He’s trying to be too clever for his own good. He has always struck me as a “pretend” conservative, more aligned with his dad’s views and just playing along to snag some tea party votes. I guess he thinks, by running for national office, he can afford to let the facade slip a little.
Rand Paul’s getting overconfident and becoming less appealing to constitutional conservatives. He should do the Math. Any majority he could put together would have to include those who will not accept the invasion of the US as a done deal. JMHO
Rand has a theory that if welfare benefits are cut off to the illegale crowd they will depart voluntarily. And that’s probably true. But the way he puts it is jarring.
If he had added:
Rand Paul says “Republicans cannot be party of deportation becasue the current GOP establihment is owned by the corrupt chamber of crony commerce which encoutrages illegal immigration....”
Then maybe I would feel better about this....
But Rand just stuck his damned libertarian foot straight into his yapping jaw...
You can have a welfare state or open borders and it is a bad thing, but to have both spells certain doom for the country....
Just when you might warm to the idea of supporting Rand Paul for president he comes up with this nonsense. I would vote for him over Hillary for sure but he’s making it easier for me to support Cruz or Walker in the GOP primaries instead. Behind that conservative facade is a libertarian bomb about to explode all over the GOP. All of us should be wary of him.
The bottom line is that the Hispanic community, the Latino community, is not going to hear us until we get beyond that issue.”
Lemme see if I understand: people who break the law to enter this country are not going to hear us until we stop saying, “We’re not going to let you break the law to enter this country”? Does that about wrap it up? That’s the “reasonable” approach?
[Shakes head in disbelief]...
Didn’t he say he opposed continuing welfare to the illegale crowd? He needs some work on his messaging, though.
And most Hispanic citizens and even legal “aliens” resent the competition and the bad name. They know there’s trash in Mexico.
