ROCKUMENTARY: MARCH 29, 1969
#6 The Temptations: Runaway Child, Running WildWhen I did the songs of Norman Whitfield, I went into the work he did with the Temptations and introducing the concept of psychedelic soul. This was one of his major successes.

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Brahms knew when he had a great tune on his hands, and this was one he recycled. For his first violin sonata, he moved the key of "Rain Song" from F# minor to G minor to write a wonderful finale.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Lots more sunshine today and the neighborhood roads get worse and the lakes get bigger!!

This one is set on a rainy afternoon, which is explicitly mentioned in the second verse. It's from "In Search of the Lost Chord," their amazing 1968 album.

Dudess!
“The Cascades” were a San Diego group who always played at the USO club while I was stationed there. I heard, “Rhythm Of The Rain” before it was released as a 45 RPM record! NA - NA - NA - NA - NA! ;-)

When we lived in Panama City, FL we had three girl cousins who lived in Lynn Haven which was nearby. The oldest one was attractive and eventually married a wealthy lawyer. The middle one was my age and just flat out beautiful. I couldn’t do much except admire her as the families would not have put up with anything more.
I remember The girls asked us boys to join them in their room for some records. The first song they played was “Rhythm of the Falling Rain” by the Cascades.
