THE HAGUE — President Obama acknowledged Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea would be difficult to reverse, but he dismissed Russia as a “regional power” that did not pose a leading security threat to the United States.
Concluding a summit here on nuclear security, Obama also warned that broader Russian military intervention in neighboring countries would trigger further economic sanctions that would disrupt the global economy but hit Russia the hardest.
“Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors — not out of strength but out of weakness,” Obama said in response to a reporter’s question about whether his 2012 election opponent, Mitt Romney, was right to characterize Russia as America’s biggest geopolitical foe.
“They don’t pose the number one national security threat to the United States,” Obama said in a news conference. “I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan.”
Defending his response to the Ukraine crisis, Obama dismissed criticism that a perception of weakness abroad had prompted Putin to seize Ukraine’s autonomous Crimea region this month, an act the United States and Europe have called a violation of both Ukrainian and international law. But Obama made clear that no military response is being contemplated, unless Putin pushes into NATO member nations on Russia’s western border.

At the same time that Russia was denying having blockaded Ukrainian naval facilities in Crimea, little-noticed reports came out of Moscow saying that Vladimir Putin’s government had ongoing conversations with eight foreign countries with the objective of building overseas military facilities, including in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

Can a country with an arsenal of nuclear warheads and numerous platforms for delivering them be called a regional power? Can a country so vast that its capitol is closer to Chicago than it is to its easternmost city be considered a regional power? Ridiculous.

Obama’s entire Residency has consisted of one dedicated to devolving America to the same status as the rest of the known world. And now he is dismissing other country actions as regional? He can’t make up his mind. He either wants this petty regional egalitarianism, or he wants something else, especially when it comes to HIM.
He is nothing more than a pitiful example of horribly misplaced affirmative action coupled with the abject ignorance by American liberals’ support. He is simply a lightweight incompetent Muslim who hates America and cannot stand to be outplayed by anyone except by that mooch of a wife and an overbearing mother-in-law and an Iranian hydra who controls him.

It’s basically Obama saying that the Russian takeover of Crimea and potential takeover of Ukraine is not a big deal to him, because he would rather be golfing than dealing with it.
Obama is the kid whose lunch has just been taken by the class bully: “I wasn’t hungry, anyway.”
Although admittedly not an expert in geopolitics, I would still be loathe to underestimate Putin’s Russia.
When Putin and mac daddy meet face to face only one of them wears depends, take a guess who wears the depends.
