“I would have voted for the pro-life, pro-marriage Dillard, whom I am sure would have beaten Quinn this November, just as he would have beaten him in 2010, since Dillard would have held down Quinns margins in Chicagoland.”
Dillard was misrepresented throughout this campaign. Jil Tracy is a class act. The two would have turned things around in Illinois.
Illinois gets what it deserves.
going into the primary it was clear that Brady wouldnt be able to catch the liberal Rauner, so if I lived in IL I would have voted for the pro-life, pro-marriage Dillard
I knew Brady would place third but I didn't think Dillard would get anywhere near Rauner. Apparently he did it with union help, no poll had him so close. Perhaps if I didn't think Rauner was going to win easily I may have backed Dillard. But you can at least argue that Dillard is worse (not on social issues but others, the unions prefer him for a reason).
They are both pieces of crap, pick your poison. I don't feel bad for voting for Brady. Absolutely disgusting election.
Who did you vote for, Phil?
Rauner probably had the best media consultants money can buy - and he’s got the money to buy ‘em. His radio commercials said everything conservatives want a candidate to say.
But has he ever done anything - *anything* - politically to indicate he really believes all the stuff he ran on? Well, if financially supporting the worst of the donkey criminal enterprise (Rahm, Daley, Rendell, etc) is the highlight of your past political involvement, I wouldn’t put real high hopes in many of the fine sentiments expressed in his media barrage.
If elected, I expect Rauner to be Illinois’s answer to Bloomberg, without (perhaps) the antipathy to BigGulp sodas.
I voted for Rutherford. I didn’t like any of the republican governor candidates, but he’s the one I disliked the least, the least of four evils.
Ironically, Brady was in the position in 2014 that Oberweis was in back in 2006 (losing a third time because he overstayed his welcome). A fresher conservative state legislator with lots of $$$ might have posed a credible threat to Rauner. (Of course, in that hypocritical scenario, I think the combine would have destroyed that candidate like they did to Jack Ryan and Dan Rutherford).
Brady shouldn't have run this time, and hopefully will take the hint after this election, but sadly Obeweis and his fan club NEVER take the hint, and Oberweis is always held to a different standard (he can endorse Topinka and it's fine, but if Brady does it, it's treason). His fan club will always love him matter what he does. I agree with PhilCollins' predictions for November (Durbin beats Oberweis 2-to-1, probably 65% to 35%). Oberweis fans will blame everyone else for his loss (they'll even blame Truax supporters, claiming we didn't blindly worship Obie enough), again, and gear up to Draft Oberweis 2016, just like before. If they haven't figured out after FIVE losses that he's a lousy candidate, they won't figure out it after six losses, either.
>>> I know that as a FReeper Im supposed to hate Dillard to the exclusion of all else, but going into the primary it was clear that Brady wouldnt be able to catch the liberal Rauner, so if I lived in IL I would have voted for the pro-life, pro-marriage Dillard <<
Kirk I was for McCain in '08 even though I appeared in an Obama campaign ad gushing over Barack Dillard is indeed an awful choice, but Rauner is worse and to his left. (although Dillard may be even worse than Rauner on fiscal issues) Every conservative agreed in 2010 that Dillard sucked, the fact some Andrejewski supporters flip-flopped this time around and tried to pretend Dillard was the conservative choice in 2014 didn't change the fact he sucked and was a yes-man for the IL GOP establishment. Impy is correct that no poll showed Dillard had a chance of beating Rauner, the only reason it was close is because the union thugs crossed over in big numbers for union suckup RINO Dillard (and they would have went back to the more liberal Quinn if Dillard had been the GOP nominee). If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick between Dillard and Rauner, then yes Dillard would preferable, but they're both combiners and they both suck.

There's no combine in NYC that I know of, but Rauner as the Illinois eqivilent to Bloomberg is an apt comparison (wealthy slimy socialist who has spent years bankrolling the RATs behind the scenes runs for office as a Republican and has slick ads that portray him as a fiscally conservative honest reformer and non-politician with business smarts). I agree that he will govern lllinois in a similar manner as Bloomie, and use his clout as Governor to help RATs like Hillary nationally.
At least I don't think the New York "Tea Party" ever cheered on Bloomberg in the primary. The same can't be said for the Illinois "Tea Party" leaders.
>>> I voted for Rutherford. I didnt like any of the republican governor candidates, but hes the one I disliked the least, the least of four evils. <<<
Rutherford was probably the least of the four evils. It's a shame the combine thoroughly destroyed him. He didn't even get 5% in my pct., and I heard he got an even lower percentage statewide. I voted for Brady but I didn't expect him to get the nomination, either, and if he had been the nominee, the results would have likely been identical to 2010 (Brady ahead of Quinn in the polls for weeks, wins everywhere EXCEPT Crook Co., Quinn gets 120% of the vote in Crook Co. and its enough for Quinn to "win" statewide)
>> Overall it was a pretty awful night for Conservatives in IL. We won almost nothing. We couldnt even oust gay marriage supporters in GOP primaries. This state is so lost........ <<
Yep. I've lived in Illinois my whole life but I've pretty much given up any hope since the results in 2010, and this just reinforces it. Disgusting and sad.
Good overview, and you’re right on the button on damn near everything.
Voted for Dillard because I thought he was the only possible impediment to Rauner, but even after three showers I couldn’t get the stink of that vote off my conscience. I would’ve preferred to go with Brady, but it didn’t look like he had a chance.
As awful as Dillard was, at least you knew who bought him (the unions, especially the teachers); Lord only knows who Rauner’s going to be scheming with, but I expect the very worst in this God-forsaken state. I truly despise that man for the way he manipulated the less-informed conservative voters, who find themselves in a state of despair over the corruption and incompetence in Springfield and the city.
A move across the Wisconsin line is looking better and better all the time (logistically it would be rough on the wife and kids though).
Whoa! Here’s something weird:
Fellow combiner Ray LaThug attacks RAUNER (not Brady) for criticizing other Republicans.
Either LaThug’s getting senile, or his combiner masters actually wrote the wrong name on his marching orders when they told him to sow discord in the GOP.

“Impy is correct that no poll showed Dillard had a chance of beating Rauner”
I didn’t know Rauner launched a preemptive strike against Aaron Schock. LaHood must be pals with either Schock, Rutherford, or both.
So our gay marriage loving pal Sandick (whoops, I might have spelled that wrong) by 153 votes is what I have, no check mark next to his name. Absentees and recounts probably won’t change it.
So close, damn it. Couldn’t even get a little morsel of good news.
So that nut Susanne Atanus won the nomination for CD-9 and that national rats are already using her to attack and mock us. Her opponent was a Paulbot but this one instance where that was the lesser evil. She doesn’t appear to have a functioning website, which is good, the less attention she gets, the better.
The only good news are a couple of isolated spots like anti-Pat Brady conservative Tim DeYoung beating RINO incumbent Judy Dickleman for Thorton Township committeeman (largest suburban township by population in Cook. Co., but its in Robin Kelly's district so he'll have very little power), and an actual pro-life, pro-gun, limited government conservative beat a RINO for Tom Cross' state house seat (not that it matters since Jim Durkin already replaced Cross as House GOP leader anyway, when Cross ran for and won the GOP nomination for Treasurer)
The results in 95% of the contested races are terrible. I also undervoted and skipped the Comptroller's race (where Topinka was unopposed) and U.S. Congressional race (where marxist Alderman Dorothy Tillman's son Jimmy Lee Tillman was unopposed as the "Republican" candidate against Bobby Rush).
I’m not ready to write-off Rauner yet. His outsider appeal and willingness to take the fight to Quinn could give us an actual reformer. It is IL and he has to get elected so our concerns could be misplaced. Plus, he has the money and resources to counter the unions which Bill Brady didn’t have in the closing days in 2010.
Yep, and I could win the lottery, but I'm not expecting either to happen. If I'm wrong and Rahm's vacation buddy turns out to be decent, I'll be the first to let you know because it will be a huge shock.
Right now the thought of voting for Rauner, Sanguinetti, Topinka, Cross, and Tillman (son of a marxist Democrat Chicago Alderman) in November makes me physically ill. All of them are pro-abortion, pro-gay leftists tied to the hip of Dems. This will be the first election where the "Republican" candidate for nearly EVERY major office on my ballot will be a liberal combiner. (And I'm no "purist", usually I voted for 90% of the Republicans on the ballot, including the squishy "moderates", and only skip 1 or 2 commie DIABLOS like Mark Kirk and Topinka.)
FWIW, Sanguinetti apparently is pro-life, and I suspect that she’s pro-marriage (she made a big deal about how she differed with Rauner on social issues).
Well that’s good. Maybe if she doesn’t suck we might run her for a meaningful office someday. Or maybe Rauner will get impeached.
BTW, I’m told that her atypical speech patterns are a result of MS.
If she’s socially conservative, I’m pleasantly surprised (I know Brady and Dillard’s running mates were pro-life, have no idea where Rutherford’s Lt. Gov. pick Steve Kim stood). One of the reasons I voted against George Ryan in ‘98 (first election where I was old enough to vote) is because the “pro-life” RINO picked the most pro-abortion candidate he could find to be a heartbeat away from the Governor’s mansion.
That being said, I still think Sanguinetti is way out of her league running statewide, and there’s a reason why she was Rauner’s 11th hour pick and he kept her out of the spotlight during the primary campaign. Rauner was the last candidate to get petitions circulating because more prominent Republicans turned down his offer to be his running mate, and he was left scrambling to make the deadline and found some dark horse unknown Village of Wheaton councilwoman that he hadn’t vetted. (and picking a running mate with MS sounds like something a Democrat would do to get sympathy, like the blind black guy who was tapped to be Elliott Spitzer’s running mate). Maria Rodriguez, Steve Kim, and Jil Tracy had all been known in political circles before they were picked, and all three of them were far more qualified and experienced in running major campaigns (Rodriquez had been a mayor who ran for Congress, Kim had run for A.G. against Lisa Madigan, and Tracy had been Illinois Assistant Attorney General and elected state representative four times).
We’ll see what happens, but right now I have no confidence in Sanguinetti.
Schock is horrible. I’m glad someone with money attacked him.
Sanguinetti is pro-life, but she supports the law that allows illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses.
That is unsurprising.
