Turkey will close the Bosphorus for Russian ships, if there is violence against the Crimean Tatars, said Turkish prime minister Recep Erdogan.
In a phone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin, quoted by a diplomatic source, Erdogan also said that Turkey will not recognize the referendum in Crimea in which 97% of the voters cast their ballots in favour of joining the Russian Federation.
Turkey wants Ukraine to keep its territorial integrity, Erdogan said. If NATO takes a decision on the matter, we will certainly stick with it.
Earlier Erdogan had a phone conversation with the leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev in which they discussed the threats against the Tatars in connection to the factual annexation of Crimea.
Brilliant....cut off oil shipments to Europe. And I believe Turkey is pretty energy dependent on Russian.
Well that will make their warm water port much less useful.
How is Turkey going to cut off oil shipments from Nigeria, Libya and the Middle East to Europe?
Now that we have muslims, obama, and McCain on the same side
...how ya feelin about being on their team?
The Turks evermore leaning towards Islam will get their ass kicked by the Russians. The Russians are tired of dealing with Muslims.
Funny. I was just thinking about the siege of Plevna the other day.
It was part of this conflict: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Turkish_War_(1877%E2%80%931878)
So far, Turkey is the only country willing to put their money where their mouth is. It’s a real risk but they don’t want a resurrected Russian Empire.
Here’s a link to a website that shows ship positions worldwide. Click on the icon for info about the individual ships. When and if Turkey slams the door on the Russians you can watch their ships pile up north and south of the straits. Zoom in to the area.

Little flashpoints which engaged the Great Powers in one way or another and which continued until the big Blow-Out of World War I ... or until WWII convinced everyone that cold was better than hot.
Time for Great Britain to send in THE LIGHT BRIGADE! Or will the USA take on that role?
Logical fallacy of false choice. Look it up.
It’s nobody’s business but the Turks’ !
I don't think that Great Britain can afford to do much of anything beyond its own borders. But they will give moral support and that does count for something.
The USA won't do ANYthing with this brainless, ballackbonesless POTUS we have now. Not surprising for a Democrat choice.
WHAT IDIOCY a shame that so many Americans voted him in for a SECOND TERM.
In Past history Russia (1800’s)dictated to Turkey whom could utilize the Straits of Istanbul (Bosphorous) so now Turkey says hold on, Russia must have our permission to enter and exit through our territory when it was to move to and from the Black sea. Yes there are oil tankers, But the emphasis on Turkey is Military Ships.
History has a way of biting Russia in the backside. Russia my want a manifest destiny, but Turkey is saying hold on. The Tatars (muslims) in Crimea will be protected by Turkey. Here we have a problem the Bear can come down and dictate to Turkey and we have the conflaguration of the next war that takes place of the Plains of megiddo (Armaggedon)in the Middle East
Plus they used to own Crimea, too.
No one should be shocked when Panama suddenly denies access to NATO. Actions have consequences.
Not saying it’s good. Just saying don’t be surprised.
