Angry Chinese families threaten hunger strike over missing plane

Beijing - Furious Chinese families threatened on Tuesday to go on hunger strike until the Malaysian government tells them the truth about the fate of their relatives aboard a Malaysia Airlines flight which went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Ten days after the airliner vanished an hour into its flight, hundreds of family members are still waiting for information in a Beijing hotel.

Around two thirds of the 239 passengers on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 are Chinese.

:snip:

Speaking to reporters, a woman who had led the chanting held up a piece of paper with slogans written on it, and said the families were calling for a hunger strike.

"Respect life, return our relatives. Can everyone read it? Can everyone read it?" she asked.

"We're going on hunger strike. I'm representing," she said.

"The families are on the point of collapse. There are so many families coming and going, some have already left. The young people can stand it, but the elderly have already broken down," she shouted.

It was not clear how many of the relatives would join the hunger strike, or if it had even begun.

How in the world is a hunger strike going to cause the plane to be found?

What a silly thing to do. Going on a hunger strike will not bring the plane back.

The government could care less if a bunch of people go on a hunger strike, become weak, then sick and possibly die. What if the passengers are still alive and are found? Will their families be there to greet them? probably not because they will be too weak. The families going on a hunger strike would be hurting no one but themselves.

Aren’t these people aware that the entire planet is focusing on this plane?

There are more intelligent ways to get results.

“Aren’t these people aware that the entire planet is focusing on this plane?”

Chinese mind set is intuitively to not trust their government nor press. And, this mindset extends to other asian countries as well. So, these folks are extremely skeptical of the information they’re being fed.

I read that the Chinese gubment isn’t allowing their citizens any coverage of the situation other than official Chinese statements, so it could be that the Chinese nationals, at least, have little real knowledge of what is going on as far as the huge amount of resources and manpower dedicated to finding their family members.

I don’t understand why they would do that. The entire World is looking for the plane. Heck even America is spending a ton on looking for the plane. It seems like they are spoiled. Yes it is scary for them but if they can’t recognize all the work being done in honor of their family members then I guess the World itself is becoming more selfish daily.

“Hunger Strike”? Mooooooooochelle’s diet plan must have gotten over there prior to her arrival.

A hunger strike will not help get the plane found.

Oh, puleez! Hunger strikes, riding bikes nekkid through town, having a sit in, or camping out in a tree do absolutely nothing. If they want something done, go to the msm. Make sure your face is on world wide tv 24/7 demanding the governments release the truth of what they knew and when they knew it. Find the pilot’s wife and family to learn exactly why they left the house the day before. Interesting that there’s not been one reporter who has gotten that interview.

But what were the last 10 on which you actually practiced? I think that is the issue.

But I will wait while you answer that banging on your door... ;)

The English language Chinese press has been on a jingoistic tear about the incompetence of the Malaysian government. The reality, of course, is that if the big 3 (US, Russia, China) can't find the plane, with their panoply of sigint, satellite recon and regional intel listening posts, there's no way the Malaysian government can locate it.

For a professional pilot, the most important ones are the ones near his home base. And all of these fit that description.

I don’t think the Malaysian government has a clue about what happened to the plane and its passengers, so a hunger strike is just a futile expression of anger against someone who cannot be identified.

Instead of fasting they should vow to live on airline food instead. Good PR stunt and would get them more sympathy.
