At a time when polls show public opinion turning against the Democrats, some Republicans seem to be turning against each other. Even with the prospect of being able to win control of the Senate in this fall's elections, some Republicans are busy manufacturing ammunition for their own circular firing squad.
A Republican faction's demonization of their own Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, is a classic example. If you listen to some of those who consider themselves the only true conservatives, you would never guess that Senator McConnell received a lifetime 90 percent ranking by the American Conservative Union and in one recent year had a 100 percent ranking.
Ann Coulter whose conservative credentials nobody has ever challenged points out in her column that Mitch McConnell has not only led the fight for conservative principles repeatedly, but has been to the right of Ted Cruz on immigration issues.
Someone once said that, in a war, truth is the first casualty. That seems to be the case for some in this internal war among Republicans. As the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, "You are entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts."
Why should those of us who are not Republicans be concerned about any of this?
Fortunately or unfortunately, we have a two-party system in this country. And very unfortunately we are at a crucial point in the history of America, and perhaps approaching a point of no return.
The unfolding disaster of ObamaCare is only the most visible symptom of a far deeper danger from a lawless administration in Washington that unilaterally changes laws passed by Congress. President Obama has nearly three more years to continue doing irreparable damage to the fundamental basis of American government and Americans' freedom.

Ditch Mitch, Dr. Sowell and come CRUZ with us.
BUMP that, FRiend.
Yep. In case anybody thought Dr. Sowell was taken out of context, he appears to be doubling down on his GOPE-ism.
This is rather disappointing.
Frankly, it would take something on the order of the second coming to get me to vote for Mitch (Harry’s Bitch) McConnell.
I would take Dr. Sowell’s word on nearly everything, but Mitch has F’ed us for the last time. It’s Bevin in the general, or I’m not voting. F*** Mitch, Rove and the rest of the lying bastards that are pushing for amnesty.
Anyone noticed how the GOPe is not running against ObamaCare for this election?? That tell you anything?
I'm a Cruz supporter, I believe he is just what we need to turn things around.
However, I will vote for whoever is in opposition to Reid and the marxists.
“Sowell has been a full blown party man lately. Never seen him like this.”
Sowell’s turn toward “pragmatism” seems to be a belief that we’ve run out of time.
For example: “This year’s elections and the 2016 presidential election may be among the most important elections in the history of this country, and can determine what kind of country this will be for years and even generations to come. “
Sowell’s argument is the same one we have heard for years, “we’re not perfect, but we are better than the other guy. Trust us.” Then once we put them in office, they go back to same-o same-o. Giving the Repubs control of both Houses by returning those who have repeatedly not fought the fight and instead said we need to wait until the next fight, does not guarantee we will see a fight against Obama or a fight for Conservative principles. The fact that McConnell and the GOPe has declared war on the Tea Party instead of trying bring them into the fold says it will be more of the same if they gain control. And in fact, the “war” was started by the GOPe when it went after several of the Tea Party candidates after they had been the elected GOP candidate for senate seats. GOPe seems to forget that fact. If they truly wanted control they should have supported those nominated candidates rather than openly try to destroy them!
Your analysis of Sowell may be correct. I, along with others, just don’t get what he is up to. He doesn’t seem to be the same man.
I like it, nice and succinct!
What got into Sowell? Deep pockets? Fear?
Some points need to be made or restated here:
1) We didn’t pick the fight; Mitch and company started trashing Cruz and ladled on the pure fiction that what he was doing was meaningless. It was only meaningless because they refused to stand with Cruz and chose, instead, to vocally stand against him. Self fulfilling prophecy, that. Where was this “stand together” philosophy when “nonsanctioned” conservatives made a gaffe or struggled with campaign funds? Unity goes both ways, Mr. Sowell, and it is because we have been deserted so often in the past we have no qualms about deserting the quisling wing now. Did Mitch disparage Cruz’s efforts? Did Mitch impede funding and support for upstart candidates? Then don’t come crying for our support, in the name of party unity, now. We’re too busy pulling knives out of our backs, Mitch, to help you wash the blood off of your hands.
2) It is not Mitch’s votes on bills that are objectionable, he may well vote correctly; it is his spinelessness on procedural matters that chafes the most - highlighted by his weak-kneed granting of coveted committee chairs to the dems last time he was the Majority Leader. It is what made us doubt Mitch’s commitment to the Constitution. Handing over those chairs to the dems was akin to letting the neighborhood pedophile babysit your child. Anybody that would hire such a babysitter is clearly no parent in any meaningful sense; anyone who doesn’t understand how destructive dems are to freedom is clearly no patriot.
3) Mr Sowell clearly misunderstands the driving force behind what’s taking place. It is not ideological purity we are after, it is SPINE!!!!! Stand for something! Quit making nice to the enemies of America, the Constitution and freedom! Wake up! We’re in a war, ACT LIKE YOU RECOGNIZE THAT FACT!!! There’s a reason Neville Chamberlain is disdained by history and Churchill is lauded. Dare to be a Churchill, man!
Good post!
