The number bounced around for years 46 million.
President Obama said it in August 2009: I dont have to explain to you that nearly 46 million Americans dont have health insurance coverage today. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, 46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.
He said it dozens more times, including in June 2013: We are not a nation that accepts nearly 46 million uninsured men, women and children.
The Obama administration pumped the number with official reports. The White House Council of Economic Advisers said, Perhaps the most visible sign of the need for health care reform is the 46 million Americans currently without health insurance. The Census Bureau got in on the act, too, saying some 48 million Americans lacked health insurance.
It was official: Nearly 15 percent of Americas 313 million citizens had no coverage and were, as Mr. Obama loved to say over and over to hype the fear, one illness away from financial ruin.
So, he created Obamacare. The crux of the biscuit: The United States would completely change its entire health care system to make sure those 46 million got insured. Well, at least thats what every rational American thought. If there are 46 million uninsured, and the president and Congress are overhauling the system, it must be to solve the whole problem not just part of it.
But last week came word that with just 15 days left for people to enroll for federal coverage, just 4.2 million had. The math is simple: Thats just 9 percent of the supposedly 46 million uninsured.

Obama — we had to destroy it to save it.
Had a doc appointment the other day and he gave me a stat I hadn’t heard yet. In California millions have signed up and most even paid their first months premium. 90 something percent didn’t make the 2nd payment. No clue where he got that number but he is a pretty smart, knowledgeable guy.
See my post #23. Heard that Thursday.
the original number - btween 15-30 million - begs the same question? and it was asked in a loud shouting voice then!
Does this mean, as implied that 100% of the 4 million people who signed up for Osuckcare were the previously uninsured? Or are most of them people who lost their insurance because of Ocrapocare, or people who had insurance but discovered it can be converted to “free”?
They sure as hell did “overhaul” the health care in America and now they have a train wreck on their hands with no good way to fix it.
How many of the 4.2 million enrollees (that is all the 4.2 million represents - enrollees, not insured people), actually made a purchase and paid the first premium?
But me must always remember the real reason for nobamacare.
Yep, that too. That 4.2 million figure (which is pathetic anyway) would sure be whittled down if we could see the real numbers behind it. The 0bamacrats are all liars.
No, we overhauled the healthcare system to put insurance companies out of business and to empower the us federal government with complete control over the lives of formerly free Americans.
Funny how people can’t keep their eye on the ball, and that’s why we lost.
“what deductible or co-pay means”
That is the sad truth. We are a self-insured company. It always amazes me that people think that if they pay the premium...everything is paid for. It also amazes me that they consider our very low deductible and copay (in today’s world) outrageous. Add that to the fact that the company pays the bulk of their premiums.
It leaves me shaking my head. And wanting to say...If you can find better and cheaper..rock on fool.
most of the people who have enrolled lost coverage they previously had.
Very few people who had no coverage before have signed up.
quote “Whats more, it turns out many of those signing up to the program already had insurance. Few uninsured Americans are gaining coverage under Obamacare, CNN reported in early March. Just 27 percent of the enrollees were previously uninsured, according to a survey conducted in February by McKinsey & Co.”
um... so if only 27% of the 4 million are people who didn’t have insurance before... that means we did all this to give only 1 million people access to insurance!
wow
I call Bull $h!t !! It was criminal : " Bait and Switch "
If you like your doctor , you can keep your doctor "
If you like your healthplan, you can keep your healthplan"
If you like your hospital, you can keep your hospital "
or as Nazi Pelousey said :" Embrace the suck !! "
This above is a lie too. No different than, 'You can keep your doctor if you like your doctor.'
Most of the 46 million were happy with the free medical care offer by emergency rooms all over the United States.
Here's how it worked... Person walks in with runny nose and a slight fever. Doctor in Emergency room see patient, gives a prescription for cold medicine, charges the guy $8,000 for the visit ( YES, EIGHT THOUSAND dollars) and the hospital writes it off their taxes. This was inner city medical care - NO COST, NO PREMIUMS, NO INSURANCE FORMS, NO HASSLE. ALL FREE.
THAT system could have been reformed easily to give better health care to the poor at a cheaper cost for taxpayers. But Dems were in a big fat hurry... and they're stupid...
You don’t seem to get it. The purpose of Obamacare is to drive the insurance companies out of business so the Democrats can step in and take over.
Dems neglect to mention there are fines for NOT signing up AND the IRS is the collection agency. Details that the MSM leaves out too...
That 4.2 million looks like “new” Medicaid plus the 26 year old “kids” who qualify for inclusion on their parent’s policies.
Here in Washington state, our reporting agency breaks the Medicaid number down into three parts.
I’ll guess the same Medicaid procedure is followed nationally:
(1) Medicaid Renewals
(2) Previously Eligible - First Time Applicants
(3) Now Eligible Because Of New Medicaid Rules
The Internet application form for paid policies has no check off box for “Previously Not Insured.”
As far as I know, it is impossible to determine that number using the data they have.
The author gets one thing absolutely right:
Almost no healthy kids will apply for insurance unless it is free!
