Pro-Russian demonstrators in eastern Ukraine smashed their way into public buildings and burned Ukrainian-language books on Sunday in further protests following two deadly clashes in the region last week.

Protests, some several thousand strong, spread to Russian-speaking southern districts as Ukraine's Crimean peninsula, under the control of the Russian military for two weeks, voted in a referendum on joining Russia.

[...]

In Kharkiv, Reuters Television footage showed pro-Russian activists scaling an iron gate, smashing a van and breaking into the offices of a Ukrainian cultural center. Two policemen stood nearby, examining the van.

The footage then showed young men seizing Ukrainian-language books, including a volume devoted to the 1932-1933 man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine, which killed from 7-10 million people.

"Do you see what they print here?" one activist said to another.

The activists then took the books into the street and set them alight in small bonfires...

With Reagan in office, you got the distinct impression that no matter happened, it would come out right in the end.

He KNEW who the bad guys were, and didn’t hesitate to call them out on it - NOT try to befriend them or appease them like this current sock puppet does.

We’re in need of that kind of clarity right now.

Dubya gave me that impression too, to a degree. He takes a lot of flack out here, and I disagreed with some of his political decisions (like not slapping the Dems back into their place when needed, expanding Fedzilla and handing the Dems a stronger Beast), but overall I think he was/is a decent man, and an American, and made decisions based on the good of the country instead of himself.

I’ve said it before; I remember a time when a President, a Pope, and a Prime Minister teamed up to topple an Evil Empire... and they did.

A much better time than now, I should think....

If Poles move into W Ukraine it would be a mistake -- remember the last time Poles did this in the 1920 war against the Soviets? It united the Ukrainians AND the Russians

They like to talk about in their history about how supposedly the Polish pans ruled over them and mistreated the Rusyni (forgetting conveniently that there were many Polish peasants as well).

A Polish intervention in Ukraine would stir up too much of this anti-Polish antagonism (remember the massacres of Poles by the UPA?)

There is also a lot of Polish black humor like “we are laughing now, I’m sure people were saying the same in 1939” — Poles are fatalistic, but as you said, strangely united now.

Then there is the little matter of Kaliningrad.

Yes. There is that.

Oh yes, I know all about the UPA, and there are still many Poles that frankly prefer Putin over the “Banderowcy”. It distresses me to see them weighing so much influence there, and it’s not all just Russian propaganda, they may be exaggerating a bit their influence, but it is there, and it is disconcerting.

I’m not suggesting Poland take back Lwow, or anything of that sort, but certainly to assist Ukraine and protect Poland’s borders, and let Putin know they won’t get all of Ukraine cheaply. I would believe a good number of Ukrainians want to be a fellow EU member with Poland.

but even the merest sight of Polish soldiers on Ukraine will bring up propaganda and I doubt Ukrainians would want to see them — the history books talk too much of “the Poles” — distorted history.

I’m seeing some pretty strange advocacies (is that even a word, smile) related to this.

There are a number of names I have rarely or never seen suddenly getting all “Captain America” over this while completely ignoring US/Obama involvement in creating the “Ukrainian Spring”..Which is odd since the last ‘spring’ and surrounding mechanization shouldn’t be far from their minds.

Before FR’s actual conservatives stick too much of their necks out there, we should ALL consider that the MSM lies...a LOT and that there is ALWAYS more going on than meets the eye.

Yes, I’ve noticed, I’ve gotten flack from them more than once.

Interesting is I’ve noticed the same behavior and responses on comments to articles on line as soon as anyone mentions EU/USA involvement in these uprisings.

It’s not like ALL nations done’t have their hands in other nations business because they do. But supporting really bad guys and funding them is nasty business enough, putting them in Leadership, as the Brotherhood in Egypt, and Libya, and now Ukraine is sinister and more than obvious the intentions are NOT for the nation peoples desire for “Freedom”....that is most disturbing, and evidences “other” motives are likely in play.

I think we are seeing two things at work. First are the plants/trolls. The other is people who are forgetting this is 2014 Obamerica and not Reagan’s 1980s America.

Everything else is reversed so why should this be an exception? What spins them out is that Russia, Bear riding Judo shirtless Putin and all, is STILL closer to RR’s America than the one we live in now.

They are moving towaed capitalism/we away
They are hammering down muslims/we empower them
They are protecting their kids and country from homo propaganda/We are teaching fisting to kindergarteners.

Those and a thousand like them are REAL and they are REALLY happening every day increasing expotentiaally.

We HAVE no moral horse to sit high on. We accepted ‘lesser evils’ that proved not so lesser afterall. We push homo crap on other countries under threat of breaking them financially, we demand the world wreck their economies and let their people freeze starving in the dark over global warming propoganda and yes, we do exactly what the media claims Russia is doing. But worse. We drone the hell out of civilians, ‘invading’ the sovereign airspace in the process.

Should we? It depends. If we kill terrorists that is justified. But not the way it is being done.

I’m not a Russia fan overall. But I am less of an Obamerica fan by far.

You got it!

Your post explains clearly why people see Putin as more favorable than Obama...and the way our nation TODAY operates on the world stage as opposed to when Reagan was in power..it is NOT the same nation...nor Government that once stood for America and it's Sovereignty

Our Government no longer identifies our enemies...it welcomes them with open arms and apologizes/bows to them..and then positions them in our Governing offices at all levels....and because our education system no longer teaches History...this generation is blind and very easily being led they are a "World Citizen". We are not the America we have known and loved...we are something else....I miss her greatly!
