Rep. Renee Ellmers had been on Laura Ingrahams nationally-syndicated radio program to talk about Obamacare and North Carolina politics Thursday, but when the conversation turned to immigration about five minutes into the interview, things got ugly.
Ellmers, under fire on amnesty from calm but insistent questioning from Ingraham, called her host small minded, ignorant, and claimed to be the author of a ubiquitious immigration talking point, adopting the third person to say Renee Ellmers thinks for herself.
The epic bout began when Ingraham brought up Ellmers primary challenger Frank Roche and asked why she supports a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. While Ellmers initially denied supporting amnesty, she eventually backed legal status and said We have to deal with those who are here illegally, who are living in the shadows. That's what we have to deal with.
What you just said is infuriating to my listeners, Ingraham responded. Im speaking for them right now. Your responsibility, Id imagine, is to your constituents who are legal residents and American citizens, whose lives are slipping away from them right now.
Ellmers jumped back in to argue that amnesty for illegal aliens would help her constituents because aliens aren't paying taxes.
Lets look at it from a law enforcement perspective alone, Ellmers continued after a back-and-forth with Ingraham. If we had a system in place where individuals who are here illegally admit that they have broken the law, pay a penalty, pay a fine, go through a process that would be lengthyI mean this isnt something that would happen overnight.
Laura, my point there is someone isnt just going to walk into an office and walk out with earned legal status, Ellmers added a short time later.

I'm also very glad to see that this arrogant congresswoman has a primary challenge!
It’s VERY clear that she has sold her integrity to the GOPe and the “modern” Chamber of Commerce types.
I supported her (within my limited financial means) election. I’ll now support her TRUE Tea Party challenger now.

Oh yeah? Who is going to stop them?
They will be able to if you get your way, you liar.
This is good because the government will manage an amnesty program just like they manage Obamacare.
That is all Republicans have to say.
Libs are tolerant only if you agree with them.
I heard that conversation this morning. Ellmers was embarrassingly bad. Laura didn’t even seem to intend to go after her, but she couldn’t even defend herself without spitting out Democrat talking points. The truth is, there really is not opposition to amnesty in Washington other than the people we sent there in 2010, and Ellmers was one of those. It’s a scary situation. Basically, what they’re showing us is that wishes of the Republican base are entirely irrelevant, whenever the Chamber and their checkbooks disagree with us.

and this woman got some of my tea party money in 2009-10 (along with stutzman, another disappointment). it’s just so hit and miss without a conservative party.
Agreed, it's quite clear she has went over to the dark side.
Right. They are liars.
It's scary as hell, Blackyce. I don't know who to trust, if ANYone, who will actually follow through on conservative promises. A Tea Party name/endorsement included.
Perilous times.
She’s correct: The illegals are NOT paying taxes.
However, they are filing tax returns because they have learned that they can get Earned Income Credits & get a large’ refund (payout) from the Federal government.
IRS finally admitted that they have paid out BILLIONS in such payments to illegals in each of the past few years.
Filing a tax return when you are here illegally is like pulling $$$ out of an ATM.....only this isn’t their money—it is yours & mine.
