[Texas RINO] Speaker Straus the Biggest Loser in House Primary Races
Breibart News Network ^ | March 6, 2014 | Michael Quinn Sullivan

While the three tea party incumbents who were being challenged by establishment politicians won big, liberal-leaning Republicans closest to House Speaker Joe Straus lost in race after race this week.

Defeated Straus incumbents include State Rep. Lance Gooden in House District 4, Diane Patrick in HD94, Linda Harper-Brown in HD105, Bennett Ratliff in HD115, and Ralph Sheffield in HD55.

The key defensive races in the Texas House were those of State Reps. Charles Perry of Lubbock, Jonathan Stickland of Bedford and Matt Schaefer of Tyler. All three were heavily challenged by big-monied, Austin-based lobby interests. Their win-margins ranged from Perry’s 75% to Schaefer’s 61%.

In open-seat races, conservatives saw wins on both sides of the state. In Galveston County, insurance agent Wayne Faircloth beat establishment-backed Bob Senter 66%-34%. In the Republican-stronghold of Montgomery County, Mark Keough beat Bruce Tough by 14 points. Meanwhile, Odessa Republican Brooks Landgraf beat Austin Keith, 58 to 41 percent.

RINO Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus came to power in 2009 by forming a coalition of 65 Democrats and 11 moderate Republicans to oust the existing conservative speaker. Straus quickly consolidated his power. Despite Texas voters electing large conservative majorities in both houses from 2010, conservative legislation is being impeded or stopped by the decisions of the powerful liberal speaker. Conservatives have been unsuccessful in getting Straus ousted but his minions are bearing the brunt and are steadily being defeated.

In Texas, the battle is primarily between RINOs and Conservatives. Whoever wins in the primary wins in the general election.

This must be some other tea party, because I keep hearing about how the TEA Party is dead.

“This must be some other tea party, because I keep hearing about how the TEA Party is dead.”

The TEA Party’s death is highly exaggerated since they are alive and healthy in Texas. However, the political death of Straus as speaker has been highly under reported. It appears he will be out. Good.

With Straus gone and Dewhurst likely to go, that certainly improves the prospects of conservative legislation.

Time to push for open carry/constitutional carry.

So will Strauss actually be defeated for Speaker? And how will this be accomplished. I hope that it’s true, but would like to see the numbers.

It's more likely today than it was a month ago.

His gang of democrats and liberal republicans are certainly going to feel the heat from these losses.

End sanctuary cities, no in state tuition for illegals, kill the franchise tax and rework property taxes. Beef up our own border security, open carry and push back obozocare.

That’s what I was thinking, but another poster said that Strauss was gone. I guess we can hope he goes, but it is not a certainty at this juncture.

Unfortunately my guy Vickery was unable to beat Byron Cook who has been Straus’ lapdog.

He was Chair of the affairs committee and Straus made a deal with the dems that he wouldn’t let bills out that were pro-life, voter ID or illegals control. Byron Cook did a good job of it and that is why we got Wendy Davis fiasco.

We need to get rid of Straus!
