Chipotle lovers everywhere have been fussing and fretting over hints the company may have to cut the beloved green gunk from its menu due to global warming. Buried in the companys 10-K filing from early February, under the risks to business heading, the company had this to say:
Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients, said Chipotle CMG .
Thats the buildup. The clincher came when Chipotle said if prices go up for crucial ingredients, it could mean an adverse hit on operation results. And then
Alternatively, in the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients.

I can’t stand Tex-Mex or Mex.
No loss for me.
That was yesterday. They’ve spent all of today backpedalling from this statement.
I grow my own avocados so who needs them! They put way too much onion in the stuff anyway.
For me there is no backpedaling. I am done with them.
A restaurant chain gets involved in politics at its peril. If Chipotle wants to blame global warming for menu changes, they can also blame their statements on global warming for losing customers who take their business elsewhere.
What a crock of guacamole.
My friend has bad hemorrhoids, my dog is gassy, and I am feeling particularly bitchy today.
Must. Be. Global. Warming.
Damn saying that makes me feel really smart.
Good! If they want to fall on the glowbull warming sword then let ‘em. Their crap is full of fillers anyway. Rice and beans.
Wow!We pay 33 cents each for them and they are very plentiful.
I don't see the problem here.
"If our costs go up, we may not serve the same stuff, rather than pass the cost on to you".
A decision faced by every business everywhere.
Because we all know how bad warm weather is for avocados.
Agree! What a load of guacamole!!
Of course, it is more likely that ingredients will cost more because of government policies denying water to farmers than to global climate change.
Chipotle, you didn’t pay attention to what happened to JC Penney when they tried to play the political card did you?
“I cant stand Tex-Mex or Mex.
It’s so overrated - what do they have, like 4 ingredients?”
I think lard is one of the four.
If there really was “global warming” I’d be able to grow avocados in Ohio. I have a hard enough time getting seeds to germinate before May.
Maybe their supplier is feeding them some excuse to raise the price.
