Debo P. Adegbile was nominated by Obama to lead the DOJs Civil Rights Division.
The US Senate filibustered President Obamas pick to lead the Justice Departments civil rights division. Seven Democrats joined Republicans in arguing against Debo P. Adegbile.
The Washington Times reported:
The Senate filibustered President Obamas nominee to lead the Justice Departments civil rights division, with seven Democrats joining Republicans Wednesday in arguing his past history defending a convicted cop-killer made him the wrong man for the job.
The defeat of Debo P. Adegbile, who as a lawyer for the NAACP filed a brief arguing that former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamals murder trial was tainted by racism, is a major blow to Mr. Obama. It comes even after Democrats changed the rules last year to overcome filibusters with just 50 votes but on Wednesday Majority Leader Harry Reid couldnt even muster all of his own troops.

“Yes. Depending on the results of the 2014 election, I expect this might come back for another on vote sometime later this year, perhaps between Christmas and New Years.”
Oh yeah. I forgot about after the election. If Harry Reid is removed as Majority Leader, he’ll want to push through as much as he can while he still has the power. And of course, Mitch McConnell will help him “in the spirit of comity” (or out of sheer spite if McConnell too is removed from power by the people in either May or November)
1) FRY MUMIA!!!
2) Barry Benghazi never ceases to amaze ... everything he does is a new, worse anti-American outrage.
No matter what the outcome of the election it will come back during the lame duck sessions at the end of the year.
There’s still a lot of stuff that will come up in a lame duck session that will be subject to the standard 60-vote filibuster. If the Senate flips GOP with a lot of inbound Tea Party aligned Senators, and McConnell survives reelection, self preservation of his leadership position will provide the backbone and IMHO he’ll play hardball with any attempt to run through a slate of nominees.
Guess now the Republicans can run ads in those states saying "Even their own Senate Majority Leader believes (he or she) is racist."
Could anyone please check the math. Coons was the surprise vote, to me..So if he’d voted yes, then Cornyn being absent would have let the guy through..
Problem is the new congress doesn't start until January and nominees fall under the new non-filibuster rule. If the Democrats lose the Senate, Reid will be very unhappy and will move as many nominees through as possible.
Reid voted against him, so is he a racist, too?
The thing is that McConnell, assuming he decides to install his backbone, could tie the Senate into knots on the measures where the 60 vote filibuster still applies. Basically run down the clock as the new year and new Congress approaches, forcing Reid and the Dems to choose between passing legislation, or confirming nominees.
Of more importance than stopping this nominee is that seven Democrats fled like scalded dogs from their President’s nominee.
Also, Coons doesn’t surprise me given DE’s proximity to Philly.
The appeals process is necessary to the justice system. What I am saying is that those who can twist the facts in these cases cannot be trusted by the public at large.
I don’t believe Obama is black if by that you mean born of an African father. Skin color does not absolutely determine birth origins. I myself from child through my military days in the Philippines was at times take as ‘black’. Dark skinned people are many places on Earth. My research points to facts that Obama had an Indonesian cult person as actual father and an African as a shill father. There is much to Obama’s history that is not being told publicly; like Stanly Ann being under age at 18 at time of Obama’s birth which would not have made Obama a USA citizen at birth. The complexities of Obama’s history boggles historical writing. This what Pelosi put on the USA when she prepared misrepresentation documents for POTUSA eligibility.
I used black because he says he is black. I think Satan is his father and I don't know what color Satan is. I do know Obama is a pox on this country, dragging it to hell.
I agree that a reasonable series of appeals is both necessary and proper.
However, Mr. Wesley Cook and his attorneys used up his reasonable appeals process about 20 years ago.
The man is guilty and he should consider himself lucky to be alive.
And ANY attorney who is helping him or representing him at this point is nothing more than race-baiting, hate-mongering demagogue (in my opinion).
Agreed.
