WARNING!!! Vulgar language alert!

Spike Lee's bucket mouth would embarrass Richard Pryor. UMM, Spikeepoo, a very brief NYC history lesson, there was a time when your old neighborhood of Ft. Green, even the housing projects that went up before WWII, was very much lily White. My Great-Grandparents lived in the area. I remember as a kid when the south Bronx was staring to experience an influx of Puerto Ricans, it was still predominately White. My dear Mom grew up there and graduated from Monroe HS. Maybe these things go in cycles? And if I complained about any influx of Blacks, Hispanics, muzzies, gays moving in my "hood" the Just-us Dept would have me thrown under the jail if they could.

How the whites moved back in to his old neighborhood, cleaned it up and made it safe? Is that’s what’s bugging him? But then, you should see his digs where he lives now.

Also, it’s been very PC to blame the demise of the South Bronx on the construction of the Cross Bronx Expwy, by that eeevil racist Robert Moses. Yeah, maybe he was, but I remember the horror stories my parents told me about that area that went on long before the first sq inch of dirt was moved to build that roadway.

And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better?

Yes Spike, think deeply on that issue

Interestingly (or not) a few years back, I read a somewhat similar article about San Francisco. I forget the author’s name (it wasn’t anyone famous), but he bemoaned the gentrification of certain areas of “The City” and how historical African-American music outlets and so on were being cleared out for shopping malls, etc.

The *really* interesting thing about that story, though, was one of the big winners in the alleged gentrification was none other than San Fran Nan - Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi has apparently made many millions in real estate deals in San Francisco, even pairing up with Republican developers to get deals done.

I just found that kind of interesting.

As for NYC, I’ve not been there enough times to know what areas are good and what areas aren’t. I’ve always heard horror stories about The Bronx and some place called “Alphabet City”, but I doubt I could pick either out on a map.

Spike Lee lives here:

Built for a Vanderbilt heir, Hatch House was owned by Gypsy Rose Lee and Jasper Johns before Spike bought it.

But, hey, it's on the market now, so maybe Spike is moving back to the hood.

Say, isn’t this the point where brutally honest
becomes rabidly racist?

My standard (and always winning) answer to rich libtards:

So, spike, naturally you and your fellow artEEST millionaires have gotten together, bought up these neighborhoods and now rent them at super low rent at a loss to the Brothas and Sistas, right?

You live on a subsistence level and use your money to make it all good for them, right?

gentrification: that's it's only beneficial to some people.

It's a fact of life that different cultures create the environment that they prefer. Using mental time lapse I recall some of the tidy little bungalows that sprung up after WWII. People had pride in their neighborhood, and it showed.
Nowadays, the area is a rat infested hellhole, with crumbling buildings covered with graffiti.

The buildings didn't change, the people changed.

I guess that security fence around Mr. Lee’s house is to keep the evil rich white bankers out?

Exactly.

The funny apart about that is that most urban Yuppies are former hipsters who are overwhelmingly Liberal...complete with vegan, organic and high-end tastes.

The Liberal victim groups (gay, minority, union, Atheist, abortionist) are finding out what grievance trumps another.

I read there was a gay man hurt in the knockout game...it was like Trayvon & Zimmerman, they have to “out-victim” each other.

Yeah, it’s sad to see what minorities have done to our neighborhoods, schools, old shopping areas, streets, historical sites, parks. So much that was built and cherished in virtually every major city has been trashed, littered, torn down, dilapidated, criminalized what have you

I guess it’s too much to ask people to take care of the neighborhood. It’s just the same old song over and over, formerly nice parts of town now trashed and unsafe. Congrats, great work.

His comments about the new arrivals sound almost exactly like what we say about those who move here to Vermont. People come on vacation and fall in love and then move here and try to change everything.

Oh yeah they also build a new home and then try to make sure it is the last house ever built in that town. Can’t have urban sprawl after all.
