#3 – The 4 Seasons: “Dawn”

Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Bob Gaudio formed this band, which left Chicago’s VJ records for Phillips in New York because the label offered a better deal for the Jersey boys and producer Bob Crewe. This is where Crewe really showed his chops. A lot of careers were capsized by the first wave of the British invasion, but these guys rode the wave to their greatest successes. This made a huge splash as their first record with Phillips. Their music changed from the simple happy-time tunes they recorded at VJ. Now there was a lot of angst in their lyrics.

The 4 Seasons: “Dawn”

Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 was a Lockheed L-1011-1 Tristar jet that crashed into the Florida Everglades on December 29, 1972, causing 101 fatalities. There were 75 survivors. The crash occurred as a result of the entire flight crew becoming preoccupied with a burnt-out landing gear indicator light and failing to notice the autopilot had inadvertently been disconnected. As a result, the aircraft gradually lost altitude and eventually crashed while the flight crew was distracted with the indicator problem. It was the first crash of a wide-body aircraft and at the time, the second deadliest single-aircraft disaster in the United States.
