Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Bob Gaudio formed this band, which left Chicagos VJ records for Phillips in New York because the label offered a better deal for the Jersey boys and producer Bob Crewe. This is where Crewe really showed his chops. A lot of careers were capsized by the first wave of the British invasion, but these guys rode the wave to their greatest successes. This made a huge splash as their first record with Phillips. Their music changed from the simple happy-time tunes they recorded at VJ. Now there was a lot of angst in their lyrics.
This has been a good series! :)
