The rise in the number of mobile device theft all across the United States has prompted several Senators to introduce a smartphone kill switch on the federal level. This past Thursday, a proposed law called the Smartphone Theft Prevention Act was introduced by Democratic Senators Barbara Mikulski (MD), Amy Klobuchar (MN), Richard Blumenthal (CT), and Mazie Hirono (HI).
Yep. I’m sure this is all about theft....yeah, right. They don’t want to just spy on us anymore, now they want to be able to shut down our communications at will.
As always it’s under the guise of protecting mom and pop. There is always the ulterior motive with these guys.
YEAH, IT’S RIGHT THERE IN THE CONSTITUTION!
Is there a big problem now with service providers refusing to shut off your phone when you ask them to do so?
Geeze all you have to do is call your service provider when you lose your phone and they will disable it. The democrats just want to control communications when the great take over happens.
These goons motives are so transparent.

There is a big problem with citizens filming the police and refusing to shut off their cell phones when asked to do so.

The only person who should have that power is the owner of the smartphone. The ONLY possible reason for such legislation is to give the government power to control information. Never a good idea.
I should think if one were smart enough to get a smart phone, one would be smart enough to want one with a “kill” switch on it.
Given that CA is trying this at the state level better to see how it works there before imposing it on rest of states.
Dems love to make the entire country a test (guinea pig ) place for bad ideas., like Obamacare.
Then when they fail we are lecture that the only option is to fix them by making them even more intrusive.
There is no need for this, one more power and control grab by leftists and other fascists.
Why is filming police a problem?
This functionality is already built into the iPhone and iPad. Don’t know about the other platforms, but it’s pretty simple to set up a password, and to set up an iCloud account to locate and/or disable your lost/stolen iPhone.
The only “problem” that could exist is that the “police” are doing something they aren’t supposed to do and being recorded while doing it.
People—including my kids and grandkids laugh because all I have is a dumb phone. I have it to make and a receive phone calls. I don’t want to surf the web or anything else.
My little black outdated flip phone works for me!
I also carry a camera in my purse-—and it makes videos.
I suppose if I ever saw what I perceived to be “police brutality” I would try to film it……….I just wouldn’t look through the view finder. I would hold it about shoulder high and not be paying attention at all to the camera.
They should shove that idea right up where they shoved the “internet kill switch.”
Communists... plain and simple.
