The guys doing last minute wrenching before the start of the 2000-mile long Iron Dog race tomorrow! And taking a break to "fuel up" on (the usual) moose chili and blueberry pie.
Our FIRST snowmobile , now snow machines of course, was a Rupp Sno Sport..... A real workhorse, hauled sleds of cordwood and kids around as well as hunting and winter camping gear. Later on a 440 and then ski doo’s and such .... Loved em !
Can’t even think of a 2000 mile race on one...LOl !
The technology that has evolved is impressive from those first old machines we had.
Stay safe Young Lady and good luck to Team Palin !!
GO TEAM PALIN!!!!
2..Thousand? miles?
aye aye aye!
Hey there, Sweetie Pie.
THAT sounds like fun.
I’m way too old for anything like that, of course.
Almost time for this race of Todd’s to start.
Prayers for their safe trip and win!!
WOO-HOO!
Thank you so much.
GOOD LUCK TODD!!!! I think its cool how in the background they are all watching Fox News :-)
Getting Ready...
Looking good!!!
I am having trouble getting moose chili & blueberry pie off my mind after Sarah’s post on the last minute wrenching.
Beautiful picture!
From KTUU:
Our engineers in the field say our Iron Dog snowmachine race live-stream gear is down — we’re still airing the 11 a.m. start live on Channel 2, and we’ll have full online coverage as it comes in.
Oh, Oh, — then we will still have a visual?
race is underway, I have Channel 2 on now.
race start is about 8 miles from my house, weather is good, about 20f, hazy, a flurry or two.
Most teams are adding extra engine coolers and ice scxratchers, first section of trail is pretty bad.
2000 miles, average race winning speeds ate over 70mph.
Hopefully the racers will take into consideration the beginning poor trail conditions until they get further north where there are better trails. Otherwise I would expect to hear plenty of incidents or off the trail collisions.
Would have been nice to have had just a portion of the snow the east had recently, so many thinks get snaffooed when we get NO SNOW.
http://www.irondog.org/race-tracking/pro-stats/
If you reload the page, you can see the racers being checked out. Their GPS will start “pinging” .... on the GPS map, on the right side, get the Pro Class pull down list - if you mouse over a name & they’re pinging, the number will ‘bounce’ on the map. You can also click on a name and see just that racer on the GPS map, plus lots of other cool info.
Riders are leaving two at a time, each checking each others gear, most are just wearing lightweight leather and denim jackets. Still lots of talk about the sleds needing ice or snow to cool the engine and track runners.
No video or live stream anywhere? Thanks :-)
I will make a wager those that have air cooled engines that push too hard before Mcgrath will blow their motors, but those that are using coolant 4 cycle engines like the Yamaha may keep on going.
