The guys doing last minute wrenching before the start of the 2000-mile long Iron Dog race tomorrow! And taking a break to "fuel up" on (the usual) moose chili and blueberry pie.
The 2014 Iron Dog Pro Class race begins Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Big Lake.
Sunday, February 16th: Pro Class Start Schedule of Events
9:00 am | RACE TEAMS must be parked on the ice and start unloading. (parking area closes, don’t be late!)
10:00 am | RACE TEAMS MUST BE POSITIONED in the race pit.
10:45 am | Color Guard, National Anthem and announcements.
11:05 am | First team at Start Line.
11:10 am | First Green Flag drops and continues in two-minute intervals until the race field is on the course.
1:45 pm | AMMC’s Iron Pup Kids Races
Wow 2,000 miles...
Real men are still real.

I don't want to use the term "royalty" because that's not what America is about but the Palin family -- every one of them -- represent the very, very best. I guffaw when people refer to the Kennedy era as Camelot. That clan, from the bootlegger old man to the Carolyn and John John are utterly repulsive to the core. The contrast between the Kennedys and the Palins is, well, stark to put it mildly.

The Kennedy family is the scum of the earth...every member of it.
Went to see how they run the two-man teams (2 men, two machines. I’m guessing that both sleds need to come across at about the same time). Then wanted to read a story of a race for some flavor. Found this one, with a snippet:

“We spent some time trying to locate the trail, looping around and backtracking, but by this point we were thoroughly lost. We stopped and pulled out our compass and maps. We had already been on the trail for about 16 hours since our start in Big Lake. We were exhausted and all getting close to hypothermia, especially me. When you are in that condition, maps and compasses do not make any sense. Later, back at home when we looked at the maps, it would have been so easy to continue and use our compass to go on through the storm.”
