Sen. Mitch McConnell is nothing if not careful and crafty. Which is what makes what happened on the Senate floor Wednesday night all the more remarkable.
At issue was legislation to raise the debt ceiling essentially paying the nations credit card bill without any sort of sweeteners attached to entice Republicans. The House had passed the measure Tuesday with just 28 Republicans voting for it.
McConnell (Ky.), the Senate minority leader, quite clearly had no interest in walking the plank or forcing his GOP colleagues to do the same and was content to let the debt ceiling pass on a simple majority vote. That would allow every Republican to vote against it, keeping their fiscal conservative credentials intact with primary challenges looming. (McConnell faces a conservative Louisville businessman, Matt Bevin, in a May primary.)
Then Ted Cruz happened.

Let’s all work together to make it a bad year.
Traitors always are loathe to go under the Cat and receive its lashes, and the marks that brand them for what they are.
“Then Ted Cruz happened.”

I think Ted Cruz(missile) is going to be ‘happening’ a lot.
>>At issue was legislation to raise the debt ceiling essentially paying the nations credit card bill
No, raising the debt ceiling is essentially opening up a new credit card account because all the old ones are maxxed out! The Republicans have sold us out and now both parties are officially driving us over the Cloward-Piven cliff.
FUMM.
FUJB
And most of all with the greatest emphasis:
FUBO.
Again, FUBO.
careful and crafty? Deceitful and slimy. HOORAY Ted!
Why is it ALWAYS about the EXEMPT who arm al Qaeda and impose “laws” for others ??
The un-EXEMPT non-Moslem American people had another
bad week.
McConnell hasn’t seen anything yet.
As long as we can keep the seat Republican, I don’t care what happens to McConnell politically.
“Lets all work together to make it a bad year.”
Amen to that!
McConnel, like most other long-term DC politicians, is probably so compromised he/they are ripe for blackmail. Remember it seemed to have become really apparent after the Clintons/DNC gained access to over 600 (more like 900) “oppositional research” files on their opponents/enemies.
How long do you think it will be before Cruz does SOMETHING conservatives don’t agree with and everyone here turns on him and calls him a RINO?
I am guessing a year and a half.
ROTFLMAO!
Most in KY probably don’t eve know of the events of the past week in DC. Or they wouldn’t understand if they did know.
He already has: the Mandela funeral; not acknowledging the Marxism.
Sooner, I’m thinking. It’s a “fickle” world.
The only real mistake a Republican seeking conservative cred can make these days is to go soft on amnesty.
Amnesty means changing the American culture or allowing it to be changed by invading hordes of illegals voting illegally. You’re either against that possibility, or you’re not.
Exactly. "But that spending was already authorized!" Yes, it was authorized to be more spending than there was money available to pay for it. "But look, it's all in the budget!" Until recently, there was no budget at all, just fraudulent "continuing resolutions" that were in deficit from day one; currently, most of it is in a budget that was in deficit from day one, and there's an unknowable amount of "off budget" spending for emergencies and so-called emergencies that never see the light of day.
