CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Workers at a Volkswagen factory in Tennessee have voted against union representation, a devastating loss that derails the United Auto Workers union's effort to organize Southern factories.
The 712-626 vote released late Friday stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches.
The UAW for decades has tried without success to organize a foreign-owned plant in a region that's wary of organized labor. The loss now makes it even harder for the union to recruit members at another Southern factory.

The unionistas were very confident that they were going to win this one, and Volkswagen was pretty low key in opposition.
Hey! Did anyone check their car trunks? That’s usually good for a few hundred votes in the “right” direction.
I don't know that for a fact, just assuming, since I refuse to go to that cesspool.
Obama is saddened.
Screw the UAW. They would just close the VW plant after the Union went into the plant.

But Obama came out in favor of the union, which immediately doomed it to failure...

Shortly before the vote:
“Obama said everyone was in favor of the UAW representing Volkswagen except for local politicians who “are more concerned about German shareholders than American workers,”
And the vote came out against unionization despite the President weighing in - or because of it, not sure which.
I wonder how many people are going to say they were pressured by the union, or get punished by the union for voting no.

It is still disturbing to see they only won by 86 votes.
Can the union request another vote later on?
Maybe a Federal Judge will decide that the Union’s loss was unconstitutional.
