They probably changed it as soon as someone pointed it out to them.

It was a pretty stupid mistake.

Used to be you could do that in Australia. Even in Sydney.

I stayed with a family down there for a few days when we made port there in 1990. They were barrister and solicitor at the time.

I asked him (solicitor), “So, how does plea bargaining work down here in Australia?”

His reply, “What is plea bargaining?”

They didn’t do it there. You got caught, you went to the dock, and inevitably you went to jail.

Also, to emigrate to Australia, you either needed a ton of money, or you needed to possess a skill they needed pretty badly AND a very clean record. There was a 100 point system, and you had to score a 90 or better in terms of qualifications.

Yeah, diversity is stupid, for diversity’s sake.

The “editors” were probably using the New York Times ‘style-book’ as guidance.

Appears this poor girl’s route took her to wrong side of the Bell Curve.

Didn’t the gov’t disarm most/much/all of Australia?

No. There are millions of firearms legally held by private citizens in Australia. For some reason, some gun rights groups overseas, especially in the US, like to claim we've been disarmed when we most certainly haven't been.

Having said that, there is certainly a higher level of gun control in Australia than in most of the US. All firearms owners have to be licenced. All firearms have to be registered. And the more 'dangerous' the weapon (the level of 'danger' being defined by law) the more complex it is to get a licence, and the more scope there is to refuse it. Just about anybody can get a basic licence to own basic rifles and shotguns as long as they don't have a recent (past ten years) criminal record, or a serious criminal record (longer term), but getting more than that takes some work.

But I've gone one of these:

and one of these:

Both held completely legally. The laws aren't good (and some are just stupid) - but they aren't as bad as they get painted.

Thanks. The media paints a very different picture. Glad it’s BS and you’re doing okay.
